Oh no-- that clock thing again? Cue the debaters...

The only time I pay much attention is when calling friends and family in the UK. Most of the year, they're 8 hours ahead of us in California, but we don't always change clocks at the same time. The only concern is to not call too late.

I used to have employees and suppliers in Asia. When the phone rang at 2:00am, I'd hear "did I wake you up?". I'd always reply "no, you can call me any time", although I'd sometimes need matchsticks to keep my eyes open.

My last 17 years of work was for a company on the east coast. They'd call all-hands meetings at 9 a.m. That's 5 a.m. for me.
No problem. Do the meeting, take a nap, get the crew going at 8, I'm done at 1 p.m. when they all go home in the other coast unless my guys need me for something.

Reminds me of my very short "career" in telemarketing in Honolulu. When it was 8:00 am in New York (EST) during the winter, it is 3 in the morning in HI. Made for some pretty strange hours...

Having worked overseas, time differences were a PITA as starting time in the northeastern US was dinner time for me in Europe!!! Glad I dont have to deal with that anymore...
Now DST is no big deal either way. ;)
Safe travels and all the best.

Well I just ordered a replacement watch a Ana-digi
Two displays
Analog (local time remote set by US Bureau of standards radio)
And digital Day/date or "Alt-time" (I set to London and turn OFF DST on the digi side so it's UTC/CUT/GMT/Zulu time) (Take your pick) also Remote set off the atomic clock in Colorado.
Lost the last one.
Oh $75.00 (About) at Wal*Mart (do not shop here please)

Schoolchildren and parents of them. Count up how many school delays of 2 hrs during winter months. Yet we still pay teachers administrators and staff to show up at the regular time.
There is a good argument for standard time too you want more evening light change 9-5 to 8-4 but keep "hign noon" at well High Noon
.

When I had early callers asking if they woke me up, I'd always reply " no, I had to get up and answer the phone anyway".

On topic, in our travel trailer we just arrived in central time from eastern and lost an hour. We'll get it back in a week so all is good. Thank heaven for cell phones or I'd never be able to keep up. I like to look out the window in the am and gauge the amount of sunlight to tell me it's time to rise. Having a hard time with that lately. Up @ 7:30 now, late for me. It's a first world problem though so no complaints.

Yep, that's what I meant. More light in the morning to safely get schoolchildren to school.
Anyone want to talk about daylight,, try working third-shift for a year, and a rotating shift is even worse.

First year or 3 I worked rotating and of course it was bas ackwards Afternoon. Day. Night
Then we went straight shifts so it was 3-11pm for nearly a quarter century.

Now I"m a morning person up before the sun most days.

Our schools have changed the start times. Most are around 8-8:30. Light out either way.
I'd rather have more daylight in the evening. Plus, it would save energy. Very few lights are turned on in the mornings compared to evening when everyone is home and awake.

Been there, done that -- for more than 25 years I worked midnight to eight by choice. I worked Tuesday morning (Mon. nite) through the coming weekend and then through 'til Thursday morning of the second week, which gave me what was effectively a 5 day weekend (actually Thu @ 8AM through 11:59 PM the following Monday evening, so it enabled long weekend trips, allowed me to choose using 8 AM to late afternoon for my daytime activities OR use late afternoon (4-6 PM) 'til almost midnight for my evening activities. So it was 10 days on and four off on the calendar.

Besides all that, it meant that I was changing from night hours to daytime hours only every two weeks, instead of doing it every week for only two days off. It was great- I could fly with students, tow gliders, whatever on one day, go out for dinner another day, attend kids activities day or evening on yet another day, and so on. A great way to live, for me.

But it all hinged on being able to actually sleep in the daytime or evening, which was never a problem for me. Unfortunately we had others who either couldn't sleep in the daytime or couldn't limit their time on the golf course (big temptation), etc. and they had trouble with that kind of shift.

You know what's really fun? Going from Central Time to Eastern time on the day you switch from standard Time to Daylight Savings Time - a 2-hour change!
Not the same day but in a couple of days we'll be doing just that. Hope that someone I will be able to survive as I don't tolerate change all that well. :)
