Oil quantity

How much oil does a Cat 3126B hold, 19 qts or 22 qts? I have conflicting information and now that I have access to this forum I will welcome any information. My engine prefix is 8YL which calls for 22 qts which puts the oil WAY up over the FULL mark. I have been running it that way. I have been told that Cat made the engine but not the dipstick so, disregard the dipstick.
Opinions??

The best way to find out is to call Cat with your engine serial number and ask them.  The 3126 came with at least 2 different sumps.  The dipstick was put on by the chassis manufacturer and many are not calibrated correctly for the engine sump.

Thanks guys. My oil capacity is 22 qts for engine serial# 8YL12575, according to Mr. Caterpillar. Use dipstick with caution.

I know my dipstick is calibrated wrong. If I fill it to the line on the stick, the engine soon throws out a couple quarts, then stabilizes. I have long since decided the engine knows best!
