Prayers for the victims.
This was actually at a Edmond city campground, not at Arcadia Lake State Park.
It was also apparently an unpermitted/unlicensed party.

Not the kind of thing you expect on a Sunday night, but it is only 19 miles from downtown Oklahoma City. One of our rules is no camping less than an hour from a metro area on Fri/Sat nights. I guess new rule is no city parks less than an hour out, on any night.
Sure sounds like the local gov had to be aware and let it go on.

Our Granddaughter goes to OU, so when I heard about the shootings, I was anxious, because who knows where collage kids go for a party... She's not a big party girl, so I wasn't too concerned for her... But still it's an awful thing..

"A mass shooting occurred on Sunday, May 3, 2026, around 9:00 p.m. at Scissortail Campground near Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Oklahoma, during a "Sunday Funday" gathering of young adults.

Key details of the incident include:

  • Casualties: Reports vary, with authorities confirming at least 12 to 13 people hospitalized, while initial on-scene reports indicated up to 23 injured. Victims ranged in age from teenagers to 30 years old. Three victims are in critical condition and four are in serious condition.
  • Suspects: Police state that no suspects are in custody. Witnesses reported seeing individuals fleeing into the heavily wooded area, and authorities are reviewing footage from license plate readers.
  • Investigation: The Edmond Police Department, Oklahoma City Police, and Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the scene. The wooded terrain is slowing the search for evidence. Police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.
  • Location Context: The shooting took place near East 15th Street and Air Depot Boulevard, approximately 13–15 miles northeast of downtown Oklahoma City. "

This kind of reporting has got to make you wonder...a dozen people were hospitalized in a mass shooting event. They don't know who shot, why they shot, or where the shooters are now but they believe that there is no ongoing threat. How could anybody draw that conclusion while admitting that they have no facts?

In this day and age the more teenagers that are gathered for an "unsanctioned" party the more likely someone will start shooting. I would have hated to be camped there when all the teenagers showed up. No city parks (or Walmarts) for me.

Edmund OK is a high income area but it also too close to one of the lowest income areas in OKC. One of those areas where you leave the tourist attractions before dark.

Cops often know a lot more than gets reported to the news. Usually for good reasons.

Speaking as a retired police dispatcher. Total agreement.

For legal reasons some stuff is withheld

Fun story I recall reading a major news paper story like 1/3 page. Sananizing it as I'm required to do for security reasons, there was ONE sentence "(Subject) was arrested by Michigan state police for (Crime)"

(in the news paper both the Subject and crime were named.

I knew the detective.. In fact I handed him the document that started the investigation.
I interviewed the arresting officer (Friendly chat in other words as in coffee break).

I know what happened.

And I read the story a third of a page and only the one sentence true.

I know the (Subject) had a press secretary (propaganda minister might be a better title) I assume that was where the newspaper got the story. But not important enough to verify.

For other reasons too, such as when they have suspects and they are tricked into releasing information that was never made public. That gets them a lot higher on the suspect list.

I also worked with a lot of cops, besides, I have a big interest in forensics and such stuff.

Ok...I can see that perspective but it looks like they are saying stuff without backing it up which can degrade public confidence.

Yup that is why we are taught "NO COMMENT" I got called into my LT's office on that story "Have you been talking to the press?" (Clearly no a s the story was 99.9% false and I knew the facts).

I have had a couple times I told the reporter "I can tell you everything I know about it,,,, I read the story in your competitor's paper". (Click, Dial tone)

In 1984, the Democrat Convention was held in San Francisco.

We knew the press will be at the new temporary dispatch center where I was working installing the radio consoles and more. The upper management knew the press was going to go there while we were working, They made sure we said nothing to the press other than what was already well known, such as why they separated the communications for this event from the main dispatch.

The press came to me and put a mic at my mouth, most of my answers were "sorry, I am not allowed to say". But a few things did get answered and I did get on the TV news for a few seconds,

The entire operation went very well and nothing was leaked.
