The owners manual says to check the oil level with the dip stick "but do not screw the cap down". This is crossed out and "I was told by a technician that this is in error. Screw the fill cap in and then unscrew it to check oil level" is hand written in. Which is correct?

as all oil caps it needs to be all the way on to get an accurate reading
