Online US Passport renewal

When everything seems to be expensive, it is what is called inflation.

But gasoline here is half the price I am used to paying in Reno and CA.

California gas tax is .68 per gallon. Arizona is .19. I worked in the oil industry and i couldnt tell you what accounts for the rest of the difference

I dont have a problem with increasing prices except when they dont seem reasonable. Businesses do have to make money but when they make too much that isnt a good thing either

I know printing is expensive but does anyone know why it costs so much?

Paying the staff to process it probably.

Found this online but no details. I dont mind paying it if that is really what it costs but i want to know what i am paying for.

The State Department announced that the price for a passport book will increase by $20 starting on Monday, saying via Twitter that the increased fee "is necessary to ensure we continue to produce one of the most secure travel and identity documents in the world."

There actually are all kinds of built in security features in a US passport, and I assume iti si the same for passports from most countries.There is an RFID chip, specialized paper that is fraud resistant, etc. It certainly isn’t just a bunch of simple paper bound in cardboard. And there is quite a bit of validation done for a passport renewal too.

thanks. I am sure there is all sort of stuff that goes into it. I just wish there was more info out there about it than a vague it is needed for security

There is a lot os security features and cost to printing money but i can find details about it online. Cant seem to find the same info about passports

Because it is something you absolutely, positively have to have. Supply and demand + corner on the market makes for expensive items.

That is too simplistic and too much like a conspiracy theory for my liking. I know it isnt that simple and there are valid reasons for at least some of that cost even if i havent been able to find info about them
