Was wondering how hard to find campgrounds during this time of year, no reservations as we will only stay a short time

Not hard at all but a lot of places close up shop. I was there in October 5 or 6 yrs ago and out on the peninsula there were only two or three restaurants open. Beautiful time to go though, no crowds. I stayed at Camp Hatteras , nice place.
