thought previous owner showed me I could start the Onan generator from outside the Class A RV--2005 Fleetwood Bounder

You have to remove the access door on the generator itself, ie. the black door in the pic above. There you will find a start/stop switch, and a possibly half hidden circuit breaker that is the output of the generator, and a automotive type fuse to protect the circuit board on the unit.

Unit in the pic is a QG3600LP which is nearly identical to a QG4000 (gasoline model) Others are similar.

Yeah, you can totally set up a remote switch for the generator. I’ve got an older RV too, and I added one myself. If the previous owner showed you, there’s probably some wiring already in place—you might just need to find where the switch used to be or where it could connect. Look around the generator or the control panel for any signs of it. If you’re comfortable with basic wiring, it’s not that hard to install one yourself, but if not, an RV tech could do it pretty easily. Worth it for the convenience!

If your Bounder is a diesel the generator is in the front and will probably be a Cummins/Onan Quiet Diesel. Those have a switch near the top of the generator.

If that's the case look for a switch that has a lightning bolt on it somewhere on the dashboard, and maybe another near the bed.
