Planning our first couple of Trips May Have Run Into a Problem….

UTtransplant makes an excellent point about learning to dry camp or boondock. This can be very handy especially when looking for an overnight to break a journey, and save a fortune.
Just one example, if you're traveling on I90 between Idaho and Washington state, you can pay $97 a night for a full hookup up 65ft back in, or park 200 yards away perfectly safe at a choice of two stores for free. (Although it's nice to buy something as a thank you)
Use of generators is normally permitted up until 10pm.
I know which i choose. 😁

Is a unit over 40’ going to be a problem when searching for places to stay?
As you can see by now, it just depends on what you want and where you go. When they state the length of a campsite it is usually the length of the pad and since the rear end can overhang the end of the pad, it will usually accommodate a longer RV than what the pad is, but, you might also find a big tree or rock right at the end of the pad to block you. If you aren't able to look at the site first, it might be a mistake to claim that the RV is shorter than it is. Our son had a reservation in a private commercial RV park recently where there was a decorative wall that was only about 3 feet beyond the rear of the pad. But he was also made aware of that when making the reservation. As one who has been a volunteer for several federal agencies and a campground host in several states, I do know that most of them will expect you to be able to park your tow vehicle off of the park road and either in the site or some extra parking area away from the site. When making reservations, do so as far in advance as possible to get one of the larger sites available.

It's not all doom and gloom, we know 2 wonderful sites in Arizona with full hookup that will easily accommodate your unit.
One in Benson at around $36 a night with PA discount and another in the North of the state for $30.
There's bound to be loads more, you just got to dig them out😁

As you can see from the picture, site 8 is only 21ft, but the second picture shows our 34ft fits

Site 48 shows it's suitable for 48ft, but you got to look opposite for obstacles to the turn.

Things are changing rapidly at Yellowstone NP..
If you stay outside the West Entrance (West Yellowstone, ID), be up and ready to pass through the West entrance NLT 8AM, later will insure a long wait and heavy traffic to the circle highway.

I've taken a screenshot of the area I mentioned to try and send by PM, but I can't find attach picture icon when using PM?

As a further example, you would definitely fit into this (currently) free spot somewhere in Montana
