Hi,

I covered my truck today with blankets under tarps to protect it from the large hail expected overnight here in Texas.  But what can i do with the 5th wheel?  I dont have anything to protect the roof and i dont have anything to put over the skylights.  So do we just cross our fingers or is there stuff we can can to help protect the RV?

Can't you do something similar for the skylights? Weigh down the blankets with something if you can't secure them? Presume you can't move it?

A friend living south of Dallas says he just lets insurance worry about it on his home, but he does have a covered area for his RV. This is a stretch, but any way you can park it under a bridge or overpass if this is just one night?

Seems to me it is time for a short trip out of the danger zone if that is feasible. I really liked the under the bridge idea, never thought about that since I don't ride motorcycles anymore.

Parking under an overpass, can be a “double-edged” sword.  While it will protect you from hail, in the event of a high wind event.....the overpass will “funnel” the wind, increasing wind velocity! At least that’s what the Weather Channel says! With my experience in driving through areas of steep grades and draws, the wind speed is definitely increased between ridges!

Yes, the venturi effect, which is also what causes Boulder, CO (for example) to occasionally get 100mph+ winds because of the canyon just west.

Sounds like the hail was going to appear last night. I wonder how things went  ???

Thanks everyone much appreciated.  We got no hail at all, and this is the second time i have covered up the truck and no hail....  Maybe ill risk it next time the weatherman says hail lol..

So we got lucky i guess because some people had golf ball size hail.

Jackiemac i ran out of blankets so i did not have any more... :)

Guess ill have to get a couple of tarps just for the RV..

Glad it all worked out.  While I've had hail damage on vehicles here in ABQ, I can't ever remember getting a warning it was coming.....
