just curious of your opinion or experiences with Progressive.

the agency that I get my homeowner's policy through, offered to "save me money" I bundle the homeowners together with my car insurance.  Apparently ASI has partnered with Progressive.

So I sent them the info on our Nationwide policy for the RV and our long time Amica policy for the daily drivers.

Well sure enough, I can save a bit

but something in my gut is telling me "not so fast"...  We've had great service through the years with Amica.  Nationwide, meh... it's a shop around since it seems like every year or too they try to jack my RV around so I have to shop it. But amica seems like a really good company and to date every time I've shopped them they've come out fair, and usually the best deal.

Also, when I checked progressive for the RV alone...on a few occasions now...they've been quite a bit more

I figure this very well could be a "teaser rate".
I know I could always switch back next year if they jack it around...but it may not be worth the headache if along with that I get poor customer service if we need it....

The Progressive premium on our motorhome has only gone up small amounts most years, and even went down a few dollars one year. This year there was no increase, but we got a $7 check from them a couple of months later with no explanation. Our toad and "spare" car are bundled with the homeowners insurance on our NY cottage through Allstate because the cottage is about 40 sq. ft. under Progressive's minimum size requirement. Bundling the cars with the motorhome would not save us enough to cover the homeowners increase without the bundle.

Dennis Quaid is a hot spokesman.  Very likable.

Oh crap,he works for esurance.  This brain is not working.  Still hot and likable.?

I would go with progressive in a heart beat. I am going to contact them and see if we can  bundle our vehicles and home owners along with our now travel trailer.
My story: We bought a new 40 foot trailer the year before last and tried to get replacement insurance on it.
Our vehicle and home owners wouldn,t do it, and all the major ones that you see advertised wouldn't.
Then my brother in law told us to try Progressive, (he has had his power boat with them for many years and has had several claims which the paid immediately.)
We got insurance for full replacement cost for $500. Last year hurricane Irma sent a five foot surge of sea water through the trailer.t. A week after the storm while driving to see what we could salvage, we contacted Progressive to put in a claim. They gave us a claim number and said a adjuster would be in contact with us. It was a two day trip and before we got there the adjuster contacted us and made arrangements to meet with us. He went into the trailer and informed us that it was totaled, took pictures and sat in his car and faxed them to their office. A few hours later we got a call and were told  a check would be waiting for us at an insurance agency on the following Monday.
The check was for the full purchase price and we also collected $2,500 for contents.
Driving back home we got a call from Progressive and they said we still had two months left on the policy; would we like to cancell it and get a rebate or if we were going to get a replacement trailer we could keep the same policy for the replacement, (which naturally we did)

Others in our RV park who had their RV's totaled are still fighting with big name insurers

Need I say more !

I am sold of Progressive for my TT.  I was far from home and a tree jumped out in front of me (darn moving trees) at a campground that I was going to be at for a while.  I called Progressive and they said an agent would call.  We didn't have phone access from the campground area and I asked to be contacted by email.  By the time we got back to the TT, from where we could get phone reception, there was an email from the agent.  I set up a time, via email, for the agent to come to the campground.  The agent was there right on time and did an estimate and a printout of all the parts needed and a printed a check in her car for the estimate less my deductable.  I asked if I could wait until I got home to have my local dealer do the job.  The answer was "sure, that is typical."

Two months later I put the TT into my local dealer at home.  They agreed with the parts list and prices except their labor rate was higher.  They called progressive and an agent came out and gave them a check for the difference in labor rates.  That agent called me and told me the parts were on order and he would follow the job and report from time to time.  He called me every couple of days and gave me updates...what parts had arrived, when the job started on the TT and so on until completion.  I picked up the trailer and paid the amount of the check Progressive had given me plus my deductable.  I kept waiting for some glitch but everything went perfectly.  I was very happy with the whole deal and the repair.  I was called twice by Progressive after the repair.  Once to tell me that if I find and damages that went unnoticed to call them.  The second call was to see if I was happy with their service.  They treated me so well I thought I was being set up to do a commercial for the company.  That event sold me on progressive.

I was in an auto accident where the other driver ran a stop sign and I t boned him at 60 mph.  No question it was his fault.  He had Progressive insurance and state minimum coverage.

The local Progressive claim office was only 3 miles from our house.  They were an ABSOLUTE PAIN IN THE @#& to work with.  They gave me $1000 less than my van was worth, and offered to have it towed to my house and drop it I'm my driveway if I did not like their offer.  Personal injury claims were equally contentious.

I would not touch them for ANY insurance needs at any price!

IF you qualify for free membership at USAA then you can get super cheap quotes on insurance. They farm out their RV stuff to Progressive but you still get a hefty discount.

I've had them for years now. I had several comprehensive claims. They do not raise rates over comprehensive claims.

I am happy enough with them. I pay annually to save the finance fees. :)

I shop for better rates every time my insurance is coming due and I have always had Progressive to be higher than Safeco, who I am with now, through Good Sam. I have the coach and both cars on the policy. It goes up every year, just like anyone else, but is always the cheapest comparatively.

Twice I have tried moving my insurance to Progressive. In both instances, they gave me a lowball rate for the new policy. When renewal time came around they raised the rates considerably for no apparent reason. It seems to be a common practice with Progressive now. Those that report little to no rate increases seem to have been with Progressive for some time. But many are reporting this new "bait and switch" practice. After the rate increase, I had to find another insurer with lower rates. Which was no problem. I won't fall for this trick again. Chuck

Did you use a broker/agent or sign up online. The rate jump complaints I've seen so far all seem to be with policies through a broker or agent. I signed up online and have had nothing but modest increases, no increases, and one small decrease. The only significant increase I've seen was an expected one when I bought a newer motorhome.

We have Progressive on our RV through our agent with Farm Bureau as they wouldn?t do coverage for fulltime. Our rate actually dropped for the second year and we just had a claim paid on the theft of bicycles from the back of the RV. Went pretty smoothly although we were disappointed with the coverage terms (which was our fault for not being aware of ahead of time).

I have been a USAA member for 57 years so I am stumped when you mention "free membership at USAA"  Is that something new - a charge for membership?  When they told me that Progressive handles all their RV business I just told them no.  For some strange reason, I recall being told that Progressive is owned by George Soros and I won't go beyond that other than to say if George is for it I am not.  Even the name of the company strikes a sour chord with me so I guess Allied doesn't sound much better but it is what we use.  The agent - Forest City Insurance - is top notch.

Edit:  On second thought maybe your reference to 'free membership' is referring to the fact that you need to have a military connection to belong to USAA.

George Soros has never owned Progressive, although he did match several million dollars in contributions from former Progressive CEO Peter Lewis to a couple of liberal political action committees. Those donations ($3 and $2.5 million) were pocket change compared to Lewis' $50 million donation to the Guggenheim Museum and the hundreds of millions of dollars Lewis donated to Princeton and Case Western Reserve universities. There is no connection between George Soros and Progressive, and only a thin thread connecting him to Peter Lewis.

I have had Progressive off and on over the years, but have not had any claims so I cannot speak to that, though folks I know who have filed claims, were happy with the process and outcome.  I currently have Progressive for our rig as a full-timer and our auto policies as well.  The only head scratching incident we had with Progressive is, and our agent was scratching her head, was when we enrolled for a full-timers policy which clearly states the policy covers us as full-timers, the underwriters kept asking for specific documentation showing our mail service address.  There acceptable documentation included utility bills which of course we did not have, interestingly enough though, no cell phone bills which we did have.  They also accepted a payroll stub, but as I had retired and Lin An had resigned from her job prior to becoming full-time the address was not our current address.  What finally saved the day was a couple months down the road, once Lin An started travel nursing she could provide a current payroll stub.  Other than that, we have had a good experience with Progressive and over the years in most cases they provided the best rates.  One year when I was shopping new rates, when asked by one of the agents who I was insured with and told him Progressive, he said we will not be able to beat their rate.

As far as I can recall, membership at USAA has always been free if you qualify. If you don't qualify then you can't be a member.

The rates with Progressive for RV insurance is lower through USAA than if you are buying it direct.

Thanks for the info Dutch.  At least it straightens out that partial misconception.  But that name to me would be the same as if it were named the KKK Insurance Co.  I am happy with what I have through Forest City.

I don't base my insurance selections on the political leanings of long gone and deceased former executives.

I would guess like anything, different areas of the country have different results.  Here in Indiana, Progressive has a reputation of not paying what the 'replacement' value is, even leaving people upside down with loans and totaled vehicles.  Geico seems to offer good rates, I have no knowledge of how they are when it comes time that you need them.

I have everything through State Farm.  I've had a couple claims over the 35 years with them, always paid what I felt was fair, even more than fair.

I had Progressive on my boat and now on the MH.

A big rock jumped up off the bottom of the Mississippi River and took out my lower unit. They paid the claim promptly and without quibble.
