Thanks for the nice note, Smoky. I appreciate that. My current plan is to be in QZ in early January -- tho I may spend some time at Starband in Gila Bend prior to that.

Yep, my fire ring always needs some repair when I return each year. I thought of the Robert Frost poem, "Mending Wall", the first year I returned to find the ring a bit torn down.? Remember that one? We had to read an analyze his work in my 10th grade English class (about 100 years ago). Seems in the spring of each year - I believe in New England - neighboring estate owners would "mend" the rock walls that divided their properties. And that was the only time they ever saw each other. The last line of each verse read, "Good fences make good neighbors". Maybe I should write a poem, "Mending Fire Rings". Only my last line would read, "Good fire rings make good neighbors".? :)

Of course rumor has it that a couple of pyro-campers were burning large wooden pallets (not in but "on" my ring) last year after I left for Texas. Do you suppose there is any truth to that?? ??? ??? ;) ???

Look forward to seeing you and the Admiral in January -- or, if in NCal in your travels let me know and perhaps we could do a mini rally.

Hope you "can" make it this year, Jake. I have only been adding names so far of those that were pretty sure they would be attending. Last year I posted all the maybes as well, but unfortunately, about 15 of those rigs were not able to attend. Perhaps I will start a separate Maybes list as well. And then move the names over when they know for sure.

Anyway -- "do" try to make it if at all possible.

Bob,

OK, I will commit to being there for a couple of days.  Even though I'm retired, I guess I'm still in the work mode where something at work always changed our travel plans.  I don't have that excuse anymore, thankfully.

Jake

Bob========Certainly glad to have you back aboard. I'm still trying to convience the Boss on the Q, but it will probably take the Admiral and Smoky to do so.

Bob,

I cannot tell a lie - Smoky did it! ;D ;D ;D

We gently laid them onto the ring, let the centers burn out, and then moved the remaining pieces into the center, disturbing nothing in the process. We all know better than to mess with something sacred. :D

Bob:

Every rock was in its place when we were through. 8) 8)

Jeff and Karl -- I'm sure the ring looked great when you left QZ!!  :) The important thing to me was that you enjoyed it. That's what fire rings are all about . . .

Thanks, Shayne. And I'll add your name to the list. Considering how much fun I obersved you having last January, I feel certain we will see you moving around the campsite again in your golf cart! I will look forward to seeing you and Audrey again.

Great, Jake -- your name should be on the list now as we speak. Let me know if we can list your state and who will be attending with you. Remember, the world famous RV Forum QZ Popluck will be on Saturday, January 27th. Look forward to seeing you . . .

We'll be coming to Quartzsite...our first time.

We are Shelley and Norm Topf, friends of Bernie and Marlene Dobrin who have been there for a number of years.  We are currently from Block island, RI.  Our friends, Jim and Judy Ploesser, from KY, are not currently members of this forum.  They will be joining us in Quartzsite.  We're both planning to arrive somewhere around 1/14.

I'm just stumbling my way through this web-site.? Our first time on.? If I already posted this, we don't need it twice.

Shelley and I will be coming from RI (via FL) to Quartzsite...we're planning to arrive on or about 1/14/07.? We can't wait.

We'll be with friends (in 2 rigs) Jim and Judy Ploesser from KY.?

We are friends with Bernie and Marlene Dobrin who have attended Quartzsite with the RV Forum for a number of years

Norm & Shelley  Welcome. You are bound to enjoy the Q if you like outdooring in the brisk breezes, campfires, and great people.  I know I did, now the wife, that's a different story.  She says she's country, just not that country.  But then there is always a party pooper.  Enjoy the forum and please do comment when you can

Welcome Shelley and Norm and Jim and Judy,

We look forward to seeing you in January, and promise not no hold your friendship with Bernie and Marlene against you ;D ;D ;D

Actually, they're really nice people (but don't tell them I said that) - Bernie already wears a ten-gallon hat occasionally ;)

Hello Shelley and Norm:

Glad to read that you will be attending the QZ rally!! Have added your names plus your friends from KY to the sign up page here. Though born in Philadelphia, I grew up from a very early age in 1st Georgetown, then Lexington, Kentucky. For that past few years, Bernie's good friends Al and Barbara Wax have attended the RV Forum rally in QZ - and hope they are able to attend again. Both Barbara and Al were also born in Philadelphia. It will be nice to meet Jim and Judy from Kentucky. What part of KY are they from?

Bob:

I cannot tell a lie.  Karl did it!  And Jeff did it!  and Smoky did it!  We ALL did it!  But we "mended the ring" before we left.  If you find any damage though, KARL WAS THE LAST ONE THERE!  ;D ;D

Incidentally, we are passing through NCAL right now.  Today at the Indian Casino at Lakeport.  Feels funny as we just begining to re-enter civilization after 2 months in the wilds.  We are trying to reach Fresno tomorrow to meet up with a dear friend of Sharon's who is suffering first stages of Altzhimers.  sp? We will be staying at River Bend RV campground near Sanger. Trying to find a FEDEX office to send important documents back east.

Campground probably has FedEx pickup. Or you can call FedEx and tell them where you want pickup.

Am convinced you guys took very good care of my fire ring. It's an interesting phenomenon that the ring has been there for over 3 years and obviously used by many campers -- and it only gets better.  :)

Let me know if you will be in Sacramento for any period of time -- have dropped you an email on how to get in touch.

The biggy FedEx distribution center is not far off I5 just off of I80 East toward Reno. And one exit before that (Northgate) is a Fry's Electronics if in need of any toys. When on the road, I just go to FedEx.com and click their locater thing. It's really helpful.
