Quartzsite 2026 mostly unorganized rally

There actually are a lot of activities in the area. Lots of music jams and established groups, an arts group that does a lot of painting, crafts like jewelry wrapping and gem faceting, prospecting, dancing, quilting, etc. Kevin and I are both active in the side by side club, and I am active in the quilting group. There is always a need for volunteers at the local community organizations like the food pantry and the free clothing/household goods store. The area has a number of historic sites if you have a 4x4 or SxS. Hiking is kind of so-so as is biking. Like most places, the area is what you make of it. If you want socialization opportunities, there are lots of them. If you prefer solitude, that is easily available too. The little town of 3500 or so grows to 50-60,000; the hype about the million people is just that - hyper. During teh RV show it probably grows another 10-15,000, but that is just for a week.

I totally missed that very political banner but it is still there: Home | US Forest Service

I am beyond "just pissed me off" at using official government websites for political propaganda or whatever you want to call it.
6 months of the year I work with FS personnel on a daily basis, so I realize that the banner has nothing to do with the rank-and-file employees and is the result of some suit sitting in a nice cushy office somewhere in D.C. My son, who is a National Park Service employee working in Yosemite, is the one who pointed it out to me. He's not a fan, either.

Anyone planning on being at the Forum site between the 26th of December and January 5th? We're joining Kev and company on Jan 5th at KOFA and likely heading to Roosevelt Lake AZ following the party.

We are heading to Arizona the day after Christmas. We will be at the site on 30 or 31 December, depending on weather along the way and whether we stop for visiting. We will probably be there until 7 January when we head to the FRVA rally at Indio. We will be back on 11 January and will be there through the rally and for some period afterwards, though we are playing it by ear. This year I am adding the Greater Quartzsite Ukulele Orchestra to my activity list. Be prepared for some sing alongs folks! I’m actually a real beginner, so if some guitars or other ukulele players want to bring their instruments, please do so.

Can't wait to see/hear the video.

Sounds like another fun season in the Q.
Muy first experience was back around 1980 I stopped in to visit my aunt and uncle who did the season there and had a place in town. It was quite a bit different back then. Ben back many times over the years. Hope to get back this year if things work out.

I’m not so sure I want it memorialized! But we will see …
Pam, two things.

First and most important, if you do plan on performing, please give us a heads up on the time and place.

Second, when you get to Q, give us a weather report. Plans were to boon dock just West of Yuma for a few days before heading to Q but the big California storm may change that.

California weather looks like a serious issue right now! Hopefully it will be cleared out soon, but there is certainly a lot of damage. As for “performance”, well I was just thinking of just campfire sing alongs.

We will be arriving in Q on NYE. Anyone else there already or plan to be before 7 January? If so, we will go to the rally site. Otherwise we will spend a week with some other friends for that week. We will certainly be at the rally site by 11 Jan after the FRVA Indio rally.

I think Pam was referring to the southern Cal. rains and flooding,, folks I know who are there and have been camped for awhile,, say they have only had 1/2 a day of light rain and no flooding and little in the washes..>>>Dan

Yeah, but Auburn, CA also got hit hard. I assume that is why the power is still out there.

This was the main reason for me to put solar on that house. If it were not for that, I would have a lot of unfrozen food to throw away there.

I do have a penny on top of ice in both of my Auburn refrigerators, for an indication that stuff unfroze.

You might want to check with PG&E. Their website isn't showing any reported outages in the Auburn area.

Thanks for making me check again on my Tesla App.

Right now, it shows all is back to normal, with my Tesla Powerwall charging back up from 22% SOC (well discharged) by both solar (1.7KW) and the grid (.5KW), house is drawing 400 watts at this time.

So all is now back to normal.

That did not last long:

"As of 12/29/2025, 4:29 PM PST

Power is off

Estimated restoration time
12/29/2025 | 8:45 PM PST

Cause

There is an unplanned outage in your area. Our team is evaluating the electrical system to identify damaged sections and make necessary repairs in order to safely turn the power back on."

We pulled into Q at 2 PM. Got propane, gas and drove to the site. At least according to our GPS we're at the site. Actually there re a few other campers who look like they may be closer to the spot where the group set up last year.
