Lifting the mattress to get access was was a chore for me and impossible for the wife to get access for "Stuff" she stored underneath. So I installed a 12v actuator and now with a flip of a switch the bed is raised and/or lowered.
We have a 4# Pom and a fat 8# Chihuahua that likes to sleep in their bed placed on each side of our bed. It makes it difficult to tip toe over them when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. So while at it, I decided to cut access holes for them to sleep under instead of beside the bed.
