I am towing a 2010 Wrangler behind my 30' class A.....I have all Blue Ox with the new Patriot braking system, wireless.......

Question:  When I set it up and it goes thru the set up stages it will most of the time  give an error message....I will rearrange/readjust  the Patriot and try it again, many times....Usually it takes 10-20 attemtps for it to finally "pass"....I have tried different heights of the seat, adjusting the arm or not, etc......Any ideas what I may be doing wrong???

2nd question:  While driving I usually have it set to 3 or 4 or 5....This causes the brake to activate (light comes on) going over many many normal bumps in the road, such as fwy dips, overpasses, etc.....Light then goes off .... This happens many times an hour under normal driving, normal roads.........Any thoughts appreciated.....

Call Blue Ox, they are very helpful with problems.

Steve, on page 10 of the owners manual it addresses the issue of users repeatedly getting "Reposition Brake" error. I followed those directions and it helped the last time I used the brake. Also, you can try adjusting the feet so the unit doesn't tend to pitch downward when it activates during setup. Lastly, I remove the floor mat so it sits on a firm surface. I've only used mine a couple of times and I know the setup can be a little frustrating until you find the right spot for it to work but I really like mine. I noticed that when I had it gained at 4-6 the light did tend to come on more often but the control is sensitive to forward motion and will cause the unit to activate (light on) for a second without actually causing the brakes to grab. I keep my gain at 3 and it works fine with my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Hope this helps.

Mike---thanks for the info...

I could not fine anything in my owner's manual ref page 10 so went to the Blue Ox website and found that I had an outdated owner's manual that came with my Patriot.........The one you refer to is their most current and it certainly does go into more detail than mine....So now I have a current manual and it does address things more clearly than the one I had.....

With the issue of the braking system failing during setup, I found that putting a piece of plywood between the patriot and the seat really helps. Since doing that setup completes the first time.

If the braking indicator is coming on when going over bumps, etc., the  setting for the pedal depression (jog button) too close. The instructions say to depress the jog button until the brake lights illuminate, then depress the jog button until the lights go out. To remedy the problem, depress the jog button a couple of extra times after the lights go out. If setup completes normally, then you are good to go.

The first sentence in the second paragraph should begin with the following:

If the braking indicator is coming on......

My mouse died and I couldn't edit the post after a reboot. Sorry for the inconvenience.

David, your suggestion of using plywood is a great idea. I am actually thinking about making a small "L" shaped platform for the brake so it has a flat surface to sit on and the plywood backing against the seat. I haven't had any problems with my brake but I might give the plywood a try.

Hi Mike. I had to use the plywood because the seat adjustment bar on a Jeep Wrangler extends a bit beyond the seat. When the Patriot goes through setup, it causes the seat to be pushed back all the way to its limits and setup always failed, so I cut a pocket in the plywood so that the adjustment bar is not touched.

I really like your idea of an "L" shaped support and I think I might try that as well. It seems to be a better over-all solution.

This is an update to my previous post. I took two scrap pieces of plywood and fashioned an "L" shaped platform for the Patriot to sit on instead of the jeep floor. I used the existing floor mat as a template and cut the floor piece to match the pattern. Now the Patriot sits on a solid platform with a 3/4" backing plate against the drivers seat and the brake initializes the first time every time. Very simple to do and no more frustration in repeating the start up process. If anyone wants a picture just send me a message.

Good Evening, Mike

Could you send me a picture because I am having the same issue with my Chevy Trax.

Though the box in the driver's seat pedal pushers are handy.

I still like a pedal puller like the US-Gear system or any of a host of others.

The dealer messed up the install on my pedal puller.. I fixed it ONCE

The box in the seat claim "no install" but as you found you install them EVERY TOW and every install is a chance to mess up

I’ve had mine for a couple of years. I’ve never gotten any error messages except for when the wireless can’t find the brake because it’s not powered on yet.

We have weather tech mats that are quite slippery. I raised the legs up to where the unit stays level the first time I used it and have never had a problem. I run the sensitivity and force way higher than they suggest.
