My son bouht an older camper with 2 tanks mounted horisontally, and a sticker in the compartment says to always carry and fill them horixontally...or close to that.
These tanks don't have the new 3 sided fill valve handle and we don't know if the new valve systme is required on rv'vs..? Is it? and if so,will it require special tanks for horizontal use?
I'm guessing it has something to do with a pickup tube inside maybe?
Thanks for any help.

OK,Googled the opd regs, and those tanks got a wiarver because they could not be fitted with the devices. Google really is your friend. :)

You answered your own question, but for the benfit of others...

The OPD valve regulations apply only to vertical standing, DOT-certified portable tanks. Horizontal DOT tanks are exempt and and the fixed mount, ASME certified tanks used in motorhomes and other bulk LP carriers are not covered by the OPD regulations.  ASME LP tanks already have some of the same safety features anyway, e.g. the 80% fill cut-off.
