OK guys,

What is the easiest way to test the fan clutch. On my last trip it didn't clutch in the last day, it was cool out and the engine never got hot but I did hear the belts squeal strangly the day before when the fan was clutching in. I don't know that there is an issue with it but want to check it out.

I'll measure with a mic and cut with a chainsaw because little weak on info. Air clutch fan? Electric fan? Thermal?
Anyway first thing I would check would be the belt tensioner if so equipped. You have to unload the belt tension and spin the components indivdually driven by the belt. You will recognize the faulty unit right away. Good luck
 
If your engine was not getting warm the fan should not engage.


A little belt dressing will tell you if the belt is getting loose or worn. If it is original it is ready for replacement.
 
Aren't OBD II gasser clutch fans generally engaged on start up? You would hear it for a few moments after start up. They make a lot of noise, more engine speed more noise. Very noticable when it disengages and fan stops.
 
The belts are new. I was wanting to know if anyone knew an easy way to test a viscus/thermal clutch. Otherwise there is no problems.

Driftless, These clutches only engage when temp rises and the oil in the clutch becomes thick enough to cause lock up, then the jet engine sound begins.
