Range Hood 120v to 12v Conversion with out an Inverter?

I need to convert a household 120v range hood to 12v. And I cannot use an inverter (I need to have the hood light (already has a LED light) on all night without draining my batteries). Can it be done?

Here's the range hood I'm looking to convert.

No converter in your rig for 12 volts?

But very easy, it only draws 240 watts it says in the specs. 20 amps at 12 volts, so just a little more current than that should work.

Something like this will run it. But where are you getting the 120 VAC from, if you're worried about battery drain?

You have it backwards - it's a 120 volt home style range hood he wants to convert to 12 volts without running an inverter. Hard to do without extensive modifications.

Those puck lights are easy to install and only use 3 watts. There is probably 12volts nearby already.

I need to go from the house's DC batteries to AC at the hood. Or pull out the wiring in the hood and convert it to DC (for the fan).

Could I simply take the guts out of a RV range hood and put them in the house hood?

To do that you will need to find a 12V direct current motor that will find and replace the present 120V alternating current motor. Probably will need to change the LEDs as well. Can it be done? Yes. Will it be easy and cost effective? No

It would be a question of how much modifying will it take. Possible, maybe.
No, that puck light will do nothing for the fan motor.

Considering that we do not have electric service here, and I cannot run the generator 24/7, I really need the hood to run on DC.

The hood needs 120 volts, feed it from a small, dedicated 250-300 watt 12 volt to 120 volt inverter. Low power inverters don't consume much current when they're idling, you should be able to run it full time to let you use the light overnight without any significant drain on your 12 volt batteries.

Here's one example of a 300 watt pure sine wave inverter. You want pure sine wave, modified sine wave doesn't play well with motors.

This wouldn't be so hard if someone could just make and sell a 24" wide, white, RV range hood...

But they don't. I've been looking for days with no luck. This half-baked conversion idea was the only solution I could come up with.

What about my other idea of taking everything out of the house hood and replacing it all with the fan and light and wiring from a RV hood?

If you insist on white, then buy this, some appliance paint and paint it yourself.

Yep. That may be my only option. Can anyone find one that doesn't look so... modern?
