It is not that I don't want to stop... it is the extra 30' behind me that makes it impossible to stop in the few seconds that the "historical" marker signal gives us warning... this app... sounds wonderful. Of course, on our drive 800 miles this week.. and didn't know it existed.. next time.

In Texas, I doubt one could finish reading the text before reaching the next marker. And we noticed, it seems there are a lot more signs saying "historical marker, 1 mile ahead" than there are actual markers.

The Autio app is similar. It will alert you when approaching a place of interest, and have a short narration about the location -- mountains or creeks with unusual names, something historical or interesting about the town you are approaching, etc.
Subscription fee.

Sounds like one step closer to Virtual Travel. Stay at home and watch the world roll by on a huge HD TV screen from the comfort of your favorite recliner.

I take a note then Google later.

I'm presuming the app needs data to work?

Many years ago I called the Georgia agency that is responsible for historic markers in Georgia and asked if they had a list of all of them. They basically didn't have any list. I had a book that listed specifically Civil War markers but that was all. It would be nice to have a spreadsheet listing the marker, the geo location and photos of the markers.

Many states will put up signs, "historic marker 1000 ft" or something like that. Some don't. I stop and take pics of them when I can.

There's a website I use below. Loads for Ohio. Use a browser that removes ads or it's ugly.
