Looks like the reservoir is just a bit low and trying to remember what I found and used before when researching this. (?)

Most RV hydraulic leveling jacks call for Dexron ATF, although straight AW32 hydraulic fluid also works well. Dexron can be replaced by AW32 in hydraulic jacks, but AW32 cannot be used to replace Dexron in an automatic transmission since it does not have the correct friction modifiers.

What brand system? HWH? Does the reservoir have a placard on it near the fill, specifying what to use?

Charles
It's a Lippert system. We had an ongoing issue with the sensor in the reservoir a year or so ago. Repair guys found that the instructions for how to position the sensor were incorrect. Long story but when we finally got it repaired they had placed a number or markings on the tank itself. I was crawling around under there trying to remember what the markings were for (how to orient the sensor was my recollection) when I saw that the tank was a bit below what seemed to be the fill marking.

Ah, thanks for that. All comes back to me now. (y)

I'd really like to see their reasoning why they need friction modifiers in the hydraulic oil for jacks and pumps that are pretty standard hydraulic systems. And of course they'd prefer that you buy their own brand of oil.

You'd have to call HWH customer service. Apparently their oil is the same as Dextron IV without red dye.
Strangely, my 1999 HWH leveling system manual calls in Type A (Ford) ATF instead of Dextron IV.

EDIT: I wrote Dextron IV, which is wrong, should be Dextron III
This article about ATF is interesting reading: Type A Transmission Fluid Equivalent

I researched this for our LCI system earlier this summer. I used this and have had no problems since. I have a Coachman built on W22 chassis. Manual also stated to fill to the "full" line on the tank with all slides and jacks retracted, or you might get an overflow. Manual also stated (as others here have) not to mix hydraulic fluid and transmission fluid.
