When the Dow Corning siding went bad in the 2002-2005's Newmar replaced entire walls.  There is a 2005 with the problem that would be a good opportunity price wise.  I was told by a body shop that they can be repainted by sanding down to the base coat and then painting.  Anybody had any experience with this?  Thanks

That works, but sometimes the problem re-appears after a few years. A re-paint is a very expensive job to gamble with - you could easily spend $20k-$25k and still end up with more hairline cracks later.  On the other hand, a friend with a 2000 American had it done to his around 2005 and its' still fine today.

One way to reduce the risk is to repaint in lighter colors - the base problem is that dark colors heat up the skin in the sun and the fiberglass surface crackles a bit. Dark green, dark blue and black were the worst offenders.

Take it to Mexico.  I hear there are plenty of places in Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) that will do a decent paint job for far less than US prices.

Pancake Bill's gasser that he bought from Dougie Brown had a wrap. Maybe he will see this and give us an update on it.
