The RVer needs to replace the upper and lower metal retaining bands for the propane tank compartment on a 2020 Grand Design 150 Series 260RD fifth wheel after an attempted theft damaged the latch area. Members generally agreed this looks like a do-it-yourself replacement if the bands are attached with a few screws or bolts, and one member pointed to common RV propane bottle strap options available from online retailers.

My wife and I have been camping for fifty-five years. We started in a two-man tent on the ground. Over the years, we are now in a 2020 GD 150 model 260RD fifth-wheel. Some attempted to take one of our propane tanks, but failed due to a lock I had in the eyelet of the top metal band, which was around the tank. Once I took the lock off, one side of the band's latch fell off. I need to replace both the upper and lower metal bands that hold the tank in place, inside the storage area. It looks like there is one to two screws/bolts that hold the back of the band to the storage frame....so I assume I can do this myself once I get new bands.

Any hardware store will have rolls of PLUMBERS TAPE, a steel strip with holes along its length.. It works great for many uses with some 1/4 inch bolts and nuts is all you need..>>>Dan

I agree as a temporary solution but since a theft was attempted and foiled by security measures.

Too easy to cut plumber's tape I have kitchen scissors that can do it.

I assume the tank is rather full. It will be heavy so use a wood block and a bottle jack to support the tank when you do this. It is probably sagged with only the other band (I assume it has two) holding it.

Probably decently heavy steel straps,, you might consider going to a metal fabrication shop and see if they can roll you some new ones.

I hate those metal straps. I’d replace with nylon type straps.
I’ve often thought about mounting little ratchet straps to replace the metal ones. But I don’t get propane often so haven’t bothered.

I misread the OP's post, thinking it was a motorhome. I now realize it is a 5th wheel and Kirk is spot on with the Amazon link. Lots of good choices in there.
