Rochester, MN area campground recommendations

Kevin is scheduled for multiple days of testing at Mayo Clinic, and we plan on staying in the motorhome (obviously). There are lots of campgrounds in the area. I have the list Mayo puts out, and we can see many on RVLife, we are looking for some personal information. We would like to book something as soon as possible because it will be getting close to Independence Day. 40’ MH plus toad, need at least electric, FHU would be fine, 30 minutes to the downtown clinics, prefer something that is not mosquito city though that is hard to do anywhere in Minnesota in late June/early July!

Certainly hope Kev is OK and that his Mayo visit is mostly routine. While I spent 37 years in the St. Paul area, 90 miles North or Rochester, that was before RV camping so can't help on that score. Will be the Hudson WI area the first week in June visiting my daughter. That's also 90 miles North of Rochester but wanted to let you know in the event we could possibly do a mini-rally or help out in any way.
We're at Fischers lilly park in Fort Pierre So Dak. It's off US hwy 14 so a ways from the I-90. But at $22.00 a night for 50 amps and water, a dump station 100 yards in behind us and the Missouri River 100 yards in front of us, it's hard to beat.

You may want to check out one of the county parks in the area. We have visited Oxbow several times but not camped. My daughter actually has a field trip there tomorrow.

Also Whitewater State Park is near by and has NO MOSQUITOES! Something about the geology of the area prevents mosquitoes. We have camped there a few times.

We live about 45 minutes west of Rochester. My wife works for Mayo, not the mothership in Rochester but a smaller clinic in our town. One other thing to consider is parking at Mayo. They are going through a major expansion and tore down two parking ramps so I'm not sure where people are parking.

We have stayed at Whitewater before, just for a get away. But they don’t have anything open the entire time we need it.

I must have been looking at the wrong campground in Whitewater! We got reservations there for the 4 nights we wanted. It is such a pretty place.

When my wife’s dad had kidney cancer surgery there, we stayed at autumn woods rv park. They cater to mayo patients. Full hookups. Kind of a no thrills rv park. Short drive to the mayo. Small drive through spots. Price was good. This was 5 years ago. Most of the RVs there were driven rvs.

Thanks Bearcatrp. If he ends up needing surgery, we will look there for a longer stay. We are still more comfortable in our RV than any hotel room.

We stayed at a hotel for his test. Sucked and expensive. Using a RV is allot better. Like I said, not allot of room on there lots but the price was good and they accommodated us on staying time. Good luck.

We stayed at Whitewater a few nights while he was getting all his testing done. We got finished a day early, and we headed home. The heat and humidity was so bad even in this shady lovely spot it we just decided it was nicer at home. The temperatures weren’t any better, but I didn’t have to worry about tree limbs falling on my rig! Kevin is due for a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) in a couple of weeks. Due to restrictions afterwards, we just decided to get a hotel room. It won’t be as nice as the motorhome (though it is a very nice hotel), but it will be a whole lot easier to check out of! And we can drive the Subaru around town instead of the F-150 toad, a double win.

The procedure is pretty low risk, but the idea of running a tube from your groin through the aorta is pretty daunting! Luckily Mayo does 500 or so of these a year, so everyone involved is very experienced. I am still so pissed as his previous primary care provider though! Turns out everyone says he has had this for years, and she never discovered it. I convinced him to see my primary care, and she picked it up the first appointment! The condition could have resulted in real heart damage, but luckily it got discovered just in time. We now plan on heading out on our Midwest activities in mid August after he gets cleared by the docs, back in time for voting in November of course!
