Help. My wife and I bought an RV at auction and pushed buttons for slides but don't hear them even trying. Is there a sequence I need to follow for slide safety or something like that? Should emergency brake be engaged...? Does the RV need to be plugged in or on generator or anything in order for them to operate? I have it in my driveway. The inside slide lock right behind my driver seat opens and closes but the slide button next to it isn't causing any movement at all. We're so excited but I can't even get the slide out to clean it.  :( Please help!

I tend to leave my engine run, just to ensure that I have plenty of power to the slide motor, but it's not really necessary.
Yes, I do have to have the parking brake set.  Not only for the slide, but also for the leveling jacks.
Speaking of leveling jacks, I also level the coach before I operate the slide.

You might add a description of your RV to your signature.  It might help us determine answers to future questions.

Year, make, and model of the RV? All RVs are not the same.

There were 3-4 different types of slide mechanism in use back in 2003, so some guesswork here.  Further, each RV builder had his own thoughts on appropriate safety interlocks.  Some had interlocks that required the transmission to be in Park or the Park/Emergency brake set. Some may also have required the engine ignition to be off (which is ironic, because now recent model require it to be on). Try some variation of those things on to see if any work.

It could well be that the fuse for the slide motor is blown or the motor/pump or its controller relay is defective.

If you can identify the make/model of slide mechanism, it would be a big help.  Some common brands from 2003 are Power Gear, HWH, and Lippert (LCI). Maybe Schwintek too,
