Greetings all,

I had read a thread on this forum (somewhere in the past) about a similar happening.I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this or not but thought it might help someone else if they keep it in mind.

While driving back from Florida and Alabama this year and heading home, I had a car driver that was coming onto the interstate I65. Drivers were going slower through the Nashville area around noon time at a rate of about 35 to 40 mph. I had slowed slightly and let two cars in ahead of me. A third car was doing something and so I went ahead and increased my speed so I didn't slow travelers in my lane. The third car hit the gas pedal and zoomed around me just missing my front passenger side of the RV. It was very close and there was almost a collision. It was close.

After that they weren't happy with the near collision and jammed on their breaks in an attempt to make me rear end them!!! I was well under the max weight of the coach and was pulling my Kia Soul which has a break buddy and was able to stop in time. Lucky no one was too close behind me or they might have hit the Kia.

With drivers like that it is absolutely imperative to have a video cam in the front of your RV to show what goes on. The outcome could have been bad either in front or back of the RV. I tend to be very safe and courteous as I can but there is no getting around the crazies on the road. Safe travels!!

Texas is the only place I ran into rude drivers. One time a car was entering the freeway and did not understand who has the right of way. He got really pissed when I did not move over to allow him to enter the freeway. Florida drivers are not too good either. They love to honk their horn if they think you made them slow down.

YES to dash cams! DW was "T" boned at an intersection. (She was no hurt.) Not-involved driver ran over and handed her the SD card from his dash cam. Video clearly showed the offending driver had not even tried to step on the brakes as he sailed through a red light. The offending driver's insurance company had started to contest the incident using the bad-guy's version accusing DW of blocking the intersection. When they received the video they become INSTANTLY accommodating and provide all the coverage and repairs we needed with courteous attention and zero delays.

YES to dash cams - sadly we need witnesses, if not for ourselves than for others.

Never did learn who the good samaritan with the dash cam was - but we should all say "thanks" to folks such as he.

For one, there's no one State or States, that I've found, populated by humans and with a monopoly on rude drivers. I don't necessarily agree with a driver reacting but it's just common courtesy in Texas, unless you just can't, to move over and allow traffic to merge. The problem arises here when merging drivers slow down instead of hauling *** to merge. In the DFW you can tell who's from out of State or from a rural area by the blinking brake lights.

You must not travel much. Miami was some of the worst that I have seen but no one state or even city has a corner on bad or dangerous driving. I happen to live in TX but have driven in nearly all states.

You are right they do not. I have seen rude and dangerous drivers in a lot of places. DC has to be the worst so far though.

I too have had a few crazy driver situations dealing with people trying to merge, though by are the most dangerous one was on a 2 lane highway in Arkansas just outside Texarkana. As I was minding my own business driving along a sweeping roughly half mile or so long right curve in the road the guy behind me decides this is the moment to pass on the double yellow line, due to the curve he could not see potential oncoming traffic through our coach in the 10-15 seconds he spent getting around us. What makes the incident even more crazy is that within a mile he turned off onto a side road.

About the time I decide that a particular state has a monopoly on rude or careless drivers, I end up finding myself in yet another state where it seems the drivers are challenging the record.
I have found, though, that reducing my time driving on the interstates and expressways has reduced my encounters with such drivers.

I agree, we try to avoid going through big cities during rush hour traffic as often as we can. We were on our way home and it just worked out to our disadvantage with the timing. In the future I plan on plotting things out a lot better than I did this time around. Still
no since in this kind of driver who could cause a serious accident or even kill someone or themselves.

One of the worse areas for bad/rude drivers is I25 from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins. Had an incident recently on the way up from AZ that sill makes me shutter. People do this weaving in semi-control across three or four lanes to race ahead. Apparently it is now illegal in CO since Jan. However, we saw a lot of it at the end of Feb.

The 2 worst incidents i experienced were both in phoenix

One i was headed w on i10 out of phoenix heded to saddle mountain towing the rv. I was in the right lane doing slightly more than the speed limit. I10 was 2 lanes there and a semi was in the left lane passing me. A guy flew up the shoulder on my passengar side to pass us.

2nd was a guy behind me in heavy traffic on i10. I was towing the rv. He wanted to get off an exit and 2 lanes to the right that exited had plenty of space for him to merge over. Instead he went into thw left hand lane to pass me, then cut me off to get in front of me, slammed on his brakes right in front of me, then got into the right lane and exited.

Well the 2nd guy did save himself 8 or 10 seconds by doing that.

I really dislike it when people do this...especially when you are driving an RV with more braking lead time needed.

I think a lot of the bad manoeuvres are by people who don't tow and don't realise the potential implications of their actions.
