Rude Dangerous Drivers

I have to tell you a satisfying story that you will appreciate!

Several years ago, I was driving my motorhome through downtown of a fairly large city--maybe Charleston?? I was in the far right lane of a freeway in heavy rush hour traffic in the middle of one of those long bridges that go over a railroad track and maybe a couple of streets--lots of stopping and going. The driver of the car behind me was clearly anxious to get to wherever he was headed and even honked at me a couple of times, as if I was the cause of the backup.

The irritated driver behind me decided to drive on the shoulder to get to the exit a few hundred feet ahead, so he passed me on the shoulder, followed closely by the two cars behind him!

What none of them could see was that there was a police car directly ahead of me! As they passed him, he flipped on his flashing lights and siren and got all three of them in one stop!

Yea!!!!! That made my day.

Greetings all,

I had read a thread on this forum (somewhere in the past) about a similar happening.I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this or not but thought it might help someone else if they keep it in mind.

While driving back from Florida and Alabama this year and heading home, I had a car driver that was coming onto the interstate I65. Drivers were going slower through the Nashville area around noon time at a rate of about 35 to 40 mph. I had slowed slightly and let two cars in ahead of me. A third car was doing something and so I went ahead and increased my speed so I didn't slow travelers in my lane. The third car hit the gas pedal and zoomed around me just missing my front passenger side of the RV. It was very close and there was almost a collision. It was close.

After that they weren't happy with the near collision and jammed on their breaks in an attempt to make me rear end them!!! I was well under the max weight of the coach and was pulling my Kia Soul which has a break buddy and was able to stop in time. Lucky no one was too close behind me or they might have hit the Kia.

With drivers like that it is absolutely imperative to have a video cam in the front of your RV to show what goes on. The outcome could have been bad either in front or back of the RV. I tend to be very safe and courteous as I can but there is no getting around the crazies on the road. Safe travels!!

Called a Swoop and Squat it's a scam to "Get Paid" big bucks for things like "Whiplash"

On occasion they try it with something like a steel hauler and wind up being a bump on the road.

Dash cams are making it more dangerous for them... Legally as the assumption in absence of other evidence is the vehicle with the front end damage is the "At Fault" But a good dash cam.. Shows the Scammers as the real "At Fault".

One day at work we had a road closure right beside the post. We also had a remote camera focused on traffic approaching.. Just to the left of center as I saw it was the back of the sign that said "State Police Next Exit" Watched the driver pull onto the shoulder.. Notified the troopers.. and when he got to the next exit (Just past the Post building) There they were.. State Police, Precisely as advertised.. Ticket book in hand. Idiot was "In a hurry to get to work" Such a big hurry he drove around so he could pass the troopers again and filp 'em "The Bird"... Yup... They were happy to testify on him.

The other thing is that it is really dumb to drive on the shoulder of any road in a city because of the potential for broken glass and metal shards on it that are likely to cause a tire blowout.

Had the same problem last year. I was in the center lane on a three lane highway. Guy tried to pass on my right and came up on a truck going slower than I was. He backed off and went into the passing lane, then swerved in front of me and slowed down. I eased off the gas and then he started brake checking almost coming to a complete stop.
Dash cam caught it all. He finally sped off like a bat out of **** almost clipping the car in front of him. I think he may have seen the camera.

Something similar happened to us on a trip several years ago, both involving 18 wheelers. The first incident was on I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson. We were following an 18 Wheeler in the far right lane. It looked like he was going to exit but I got that spidery feeling that something was not right. He headed for the exit and we passed him. I look over to my right and see an 18 Wheeler passing us on the shoulder. Dan of course slowed way down and the 18 Wheeler still almost took us out, he was running out of real estate. The second 18 wheeler happen later on same trip under different circumstance but still resulting in the 18 wheeler passing us on the shoulder.

I was in the right lane of a 4 lane road. In the left lane was a car doing the same speed as the car I was behind. The left lane car and the one I was behind were both doing about 5mph below the speed limit (not my choice). Another car came up the left lane, waited behind the left lane car, but eventually flashed to signal that he wanted to get by. The left lane car brake-checked the unmarked police car behind it and the rest is history. Made my day!

Passing on the right. Never thought I'd see it but now I witnessed it twice on our last road trip. While traveling at interstate speeds, sometimes you get slowed in traffic as one truck is trying to pass another truck. I usually cruise at 65 mph and twice while in one of these congested lines, a car using the shoulder went around the traffic at speeds well over 70 mph.

Plenty of incidents to tell about merging and exiting traffic but that's another story.

Unfortunately have idiot drivers the world over.
Yep. And many here were guilty in their younger days. Myself included. But as we grow old we realize how stupid it is and was. :ROFLMAO::cry:

Passing on the right is legal in most places. Not the shoulder but right lane.

I think what we are currently experiencing in the US is the consequence of an increasing population of angry and unhappy losers. They are angry and unhappy largely because they are losers. They are losers largely because they made bad personal life decisions. They apparently get some deranged self-satisfaction and higher self-esteem if they can also make other people angry and unhappy. And the US is rapidly becoming a very angry and unhappy country to live in...which is why we now live 50% of our time in Costa Rica and New Zealand...

I imagine the New Zealanders and Costa Ricans wish you'd stay longer.

All I can say is that being the only sane person in an insane world is making me CRAAAZZZZY, especially when i'm out driving.:p

Safe travels and all the best.

There are occasions where passing on the Right is legal. But ..special circumstances and laws vary location to location.

On a straight (or curved) section of Freeway.. NEVER use the shoulder to pass unless you are an Emergency responder responding to an emergency. WITH lights and generally noisemaker.

On a 2-lane with someone turning LEFT.. It may be legal to take the shoulder... or not. Depending on local/county/state laws.

One of the worse areas for bad/rude drivers is I25 from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins. Had an incident recently on the way up from AZ that sill makes me shutter. People do this weaving in semi-control across three or four lanes to race ahead. Apparently it is now illegal in CO since Jan. However, we saw a lot of it at the end of Feb.

I law you're probably thinking of has to do with weaving in and out of express (toll) lanes, not going across regular lanes. They do it to avoid being seen by the thingy that records who's using the toll lane.

We saw signs on I25 stating that weaving was a violation starting Jan. 1...didn't realize it was just for toll/express lanes. Seems like it should be a violation on all roads but maybe it's covered by reckless driving. We see a lot of it from that stretch of I25 between Colorado Springs and Fort Collins.

Following a 30-day grace period during which Colorado issued more than 23,000 warnings, drivers who enter and exit Express Lanes outside of designated areas in the Central 70, I-25 South Gap and US 36 corridors will face fines beginning Jan. 1.

In Indiana, driving through/ignoring a "road closed" sign without permission is legally trespassing.

BTW it was a Sunday when we went through Nashville but it was pretty busy at the time.
