I haven't figured out what makes for a penalty. But the free for all surely beats Soccer matches for entertainment . Football players gets thrown out of the game for head butting. But this seems to be a method of moving the ball or taking the ball away from another player.

If you really want to get confused try watching a Cricket match.

And don't forget that rugby players do not wear padding, helmets or body protection like US football players.
It's only in the last few years that players come off for bleeding on the pitch.

This is "rugby union". "Rugby league" is a different version of the game. If you want to see wild/rough, look at Australian rugby rules.

I played as a kid. No pads and most times they collide as hard as the NFL.

I played rugby as a kid as well. As an adult I find the rugby 7s more fun to watch. I tried to watch an NFL game this week and gave up after a little more than a quarter - Play ten seconds, have a meeting, play ten seconds, have a time out/commercial, play ten seconds, have a meeting, play ten seconds review the tape for 5 minutes, have a meeting, have a time out, have a commercial... Jeesh...

Used to watch "Australian Rules Football" - whatever that was - back in the 80's with my dad. Apparently the only rule was you couldn't use a firearm on your opponent.
