ruining tires by towing

We just had to have our front tires replaced on our Jeep.? We were told towing is very hard on the tires and they need to be replaced frequently.? Has anyone else found this to be true?? Our Jeep is full time 4wheel drive.

Well... If the vehicle is PROPERLY aligned, no it's not hard on them  Unless you turn the ignition key all the way to LOCK and do not let the steering wheel turn,  The steering wheel has to turn for the tires to follow the tow bar

Now, bad alignment will show up real fast when towing  I think it is "Castor" is the key when towing. but everything should be in spec

We have towed a Jeep Grand Cherokees for more than 100K total and never had such a problem.  Wheel alignment can and will cause problems but a properly aligned vehicle will not.

As the others have said, towing is not the problem, except that it racks up miles on the tires and wheel bearings. Brakes too, if you have an auz brake unit.

We have had some minor cupping on the outer shoulder of the tires on our CRV but the current ones have 65k combined mileage and still have plenty of thread, just sing when driving highway speeds.

By now, you should be getting the idea that your problem is not the rule for toad towing.  How have you set up your Jeep for towing?
