Members are noticing that notifications (the "bell" icon) on RV LIFE forums now include alerts from multiple related forums, such as iRV2, Grand Design, Airforums, and others under the RV LIFE or Social Knowledge umbrella. This is due to a unified backend and login system, which allows users to access all affiliated forums with the same credentials and receive cross-forum notifications. While some RVers appreciate the convenience, others find it confusing or intrusive, preferring to keep...

Are they merging? It seems when I click on to see a response to a posting here, I get thrown over to iRV2.
Total separation would be my preference. I know the reconfiguration of iRV2 has resulted in both forums looking nearly identical, with the exception of a few different color palettes.

Clicking on what throws you over to IRV2? I haven't seen that reaction myself.

But no, not merging. Same parent/ownership and back office support staff, but otherwise operated as separate sites.

When I click on that ‘bell’ on the top banner that will indicate responses to topics I have responded, I get responses from RV Forum and iRV2.

As Gary said, the two forums and a number of others are under a common ownership (RV Life). Over time, RV Life forums have been migrated to a common forum software. I believe we were the first, and I don't know if or how many forums haven't yet migrated. The other, more recent change, has been to move to a common log-in system, so that you can log into any of the forums with the same credentials (email address and password). Again, I don't know which, if any, forums haven't moved to the common log in system.

Like Gary, I haven't experienced the issue you mentioned; I'm scratching my head and thinking aloud when I ask what exactly are you clicking on when you find yourself in the other forum? Does it happen in both directions? Are you logged into both forums at the same time?

Oops, I see your post when I was typing - you partially answered my questions.

Do you see notifications from both forums at the same time? When I click on the 'bell' and view notifications, they indicate who the response is from, which thread it's in, and which forum.

I've been an active member of both sites for decades and never been shunted from one to the other unless a thread had an embedded link to a post on the other site, so this is definitely a curious happening.

When the ‘drop down’ happens, it will show who, and which forum it came from. I seldom ‘log out’ from any forums I am registered.

Well just for fun I tried that. Clicked on the bell and on a message. Ended up on IRV2. 😁
Not all that big of a problem as I am not a fan of the changes on there anyway.

Unless you're receiving two notifications for the same message, each showing a different forum, this sounds like it might be a WAD (works as designed).

Usually when I get a notification on RVForum if i click on it it takes me to the Forest River forum as i very seldom have posted on iRV2. Actuall as you all know I dont post very often here either but there are a couple of discussions I follow on Forest River.

Might be using the App....

I am a moderator on the Grand Design forum and a member here. Both are under the RV Life community of forums. The "bell" notification is working exactly like it should...it's notifying you that you have a notification within that community. I see notifications pop up on the grand design forum all the time....some of them are from the grand design forum, and sometimes they are notifications that originated here. If I'm here lets say, and I click on a notification from the GD forum, it will take me there...and vice versa. When I want to go back to where I was originally, I just click the back button on my browser (Chrome) and it takes me back to where I was before clicking the notification.

Yep that's how it's supposed to work. Airforums and Winnie Owners are part of the family as well and I get the same notifications across all four forums. When you click on one it takes you to that forum.

Ok when I looked at the notifications the first time I did not see/notice the bottom line that said where the notice came from. Interesting.

The notification bell and the message envelope are common across all forums that have been converted to Xenforo software. I recently received a message from someone and after looking, it came from the Winnebago owners forum, and not here.

So yes, certain things are blended together. When you click the bell, pay close attention to what forum they came from (it says in fine print right below the notification) sometimes I will wait to click on it until I am done with the forum I am in. I frequent this forum, the Escape trailer forum, the Fiberglass forum and the Air Forum.

I no longer do iRV2 because I have received too many nasty grams from the moderators because I "crossed the line" by such things as in a campground discussion I asked the best way to reach that campground (mountainous and only two ways) and was in no uncertain terms told I should start a new thread in the routes section, and had my post deleted, and the several occasions where I mentioned that there was a forum (non-RV Life) specific to that brand/type RV (I'm trying to HELP people, not promote something I don't have any ties to)

Thanks to you and triplethreat. That's what I thought was happening, but hadn't received notifications from other forums to be able to confirm it.

And I'm now having issues getting into the forum as per my message. Blank screen and I have to retype forum address.
