RV Forum and iRV2

When the ‘drop down’ happens, it will show who, and which forum it came from. I seldom ‘log out’ from any forums I am registered.
I asked in Thor Forums back in August why this was happening, without it indicating which forum it was from. Very confusing answer.

I admit I really don’t like that the new notifications come from all over the different forums. Yes, I can read the forum name, but if I want to see things from another forum, I will go there. I am on this forum much more often than others because it is much nicer. I really wish the entire “shared” view of the forums went away.

That explains why I've been seeing members replying that have been here a lot longer than me although I don't recognize the name.

If you click on the notification from a different forum and it takes you there, it's so easy to go back to where you were before clicking......just hit the back button on your browser and poof, you're back where you started.

I am perfectly aware of that, but I still prefer to totally own my browsing experience by going to forums I want when I want. I now just never click on the notifications. I really, really don’t like it when some computer program tries to tell me what to do. Oh, and I do have an MS in Computer Science and worked in embedded systems for my entire career as an engineer and manager. I am not a technophobe.

Ok when I looked at the notifications the first time I did not see/notice the bottom line that said where the notice came from. Interesting.

It doesn't seem to differentiate between irv2 and our forum for some reason. Just says RV Life forum hub on my notifications. Im only a member of those 2.

Are they merging? It seems when I click on to see a response to a posting here, I get thrown over to iRV2.
Total separation would be my preference. I know the reconfiguration of iRV2 has resulted in both forums looking nearly identical, with the exception of a few different color palettes.
Both websites are part of Social Knowledge.com That Texas company owns and operates a few dozen websites. Your same sign-in info should work on all the RV websites now.

The notification bell and the message envelope are common across all forums that have been converted to Xenforo software. I recently received a message from someone and after looking, it came from the Winnebago owners forum, and not here.

So yes, certain things are blended together. When you click the bell, pay close attention to what forum they came from (it says in fine print right below the notification) sometimes I will wait to click on it until I am done with the forum I am in. I frequent this forum, the Escape trailer forum, the Fiberglass forum and the Air Forum.

I no longer do iRV2 because I have received too many nasty grams from the moderators because I "crossed the line" by such things as in a campground discussion I asked the best way to reach that campground (mountainous and only two ways) and was in no uncertain terms told I should start a new thread in the routes section, and had my post deleted, and the several occasions where I mentioned that there was a forum (non-RV Life) specific to that brand/type RV (I'm trying to HELP people, not promote something I don't have any ties to)

Charles, the trick to getting by with posting a link to a different website is, make the link go to a discussion about the topic of the irv2.com thread you are in at the present time instead of the main page.
I have been warned several times through the years,, until I learned that "trick" to comply with irv2 rules.

Admin test - please ignore.
Checking out notifications.
Message alerts (here): Forum alert - RV Life Forum Hub.
Conversations alert (here): RV Life Conversations|The RV Forum Community.

And for even more confusion, I now have a notification for a post on iRV2 that notes it is from iRV2 as compared to notifications about posts here just having the “RV Life Forum Hub.” This notification change is NOT an improvement.

The software that runs this forum and other RV LIFE Forums is all one back end. This means that you can use your login at any RV LIFE forum. Your display name, avatar and signature are also shared across any of these forums you are logging into.

Your message inbox and alerts are also shared.

We're still making updates to this shared profile scheme, but in the long run, it improves navigation for members across all RV LIFE forums. Many folks belong to more than one community.

It is apparent that many do not like IRV2.....I joined it several years ago and barely logged in before I got called on the carpet by some expert. That was the end of that and since then I have met tons of people online in "other" forums that had the same experience. If that attitude comes to this forum, I am out. And I just got here, lol.

Janet, you believe it helps, but not all of us agree. It probably makes admin’s life easier, but if I want to see things on another forum, I can go there. You do not have to “help” me to do that. Sorry, but this integration is not a benefit. It smacks of big brother/sister.
