I just received an email (not a message through this site) from someone claiming to be Andy Robinowitz, CEO of RV LIFE. It was about how AI is up and coming tech, how great the community is, etc. Did anybody else get this? Is it for real? I find the introduction of the AI summaries on the posts to be annoying and unnecessary and, to date, I scroll past them as I do with the junk posts on my Facebook account. However, this email directly to my personal account has me concerned about how intrusive the use of AI on this site will get.

Any thoughts??

I got something from RV LIFE but... Well (This is not a political post)
Since I paid dues to a political party My mail carrier delivers a lot of what I call "Trash Can Fodder" Man if I had a wood burning furnace I'd safe a lot on fuel burning it al :) (note I said not which party to avoid discussion. I get mail from both of the major parties just more from the one I support)

Well... I filed that E-mail in the trash can as well.

This is a genuine message.

I think he's trying to explain that whilst the company is using AI to try to enhance usage and particularly, make searching easier, the every day regular input from the members is valued and appreciated.

Go into your preferences in your profile and click on Disable AI enhancements. See if that makes a difference. I don't see any summaries.

I didn’t get the email, but I totally share your feelings about the uninvited AI summaries. Another thing I found annoying is that AI just up and changed the title of one of the posts I made on here. I’m sick of AI already. Let’s go back to good ole human intelligence.

I had to go thru my trash in order to find it. I opened it up and it was an ad for life insurance. That was probably why I trashed it. Thought it was junk mail. I’m going to trash it again and probably do what Jackie said to do in my preferences to disable AI

There has been research done that says training AI through large language models (LLM) is a primary reason AI gets hallucinations. I guess just giving all words to a model without evaluation about whether the information is true or false causes problems. Now who would have guessed that? (Heavy sarcasm here)

AI can be helpful when taught specialized knowledge, but just dumping literally everything into the pot just makes a mess. I have disabled all the AI here and on FB and other apps that I possibly can. Leave it to specialized knowledge bases where it can do good, not going around and re-writing titles because some computer thinks it knows better than a human author.

I took it as a well-thought out explanation of RV Life's goals when employing AI technology on the RV Life sites, but I'm acquainted with Andy and know the kind of guy he is. Whether any given use of AI meets his goals may be debatable, but I think his intentions are good.

Sometimes things don't work out as expected, especially on the first attempt. The "improved" titles were an example - the scope of the changes were excessive. Like having your high school English teacher correct the grammar in your banter with friends. I'm confident that sort of thing can be controlled to some degree, but AI often misses nuances in speech or text. Heavens know there are some useless thread titles appearing from time to time that could use some fixing, e.g. "Help!" or "26RL question".

Wasn't about Life Insurance Rene. That must have been another.

My son and my wife both work in Information Technology (two separate companies, no connection to each other.) Both companies are pushing AI and as developers and testers of the computer code, they are being equally as pushed to accept this new technology.

A few of the folks jumped right in and started embracing and gladly went with the program, others are still resistant. It's hard to change long-standing computer developers and coders you know.

But, all was going along fine until the company received the bill from the "mother ship" for using their AI technology. Guess what? They are now re-thinking AI. AI was suppose to be such a cost effective technology. But SURPRISE! When the bottom dollar finally hits, I wonder which processes are still standing?

The building of the data centres needed to support AI seems to be getting a lot of pushback, even in the UK, because of the huge demand for power and water. One proposed for Boulder City is very unpopular with the locals. Understandably so due to water issues.

The title is RV LIFE. Then it says A personal letter from RV LIFE CEO Andy Rabinowitz. When I scroll down, it talks about Fidelity Life insurance and do I want a quote.

Rene, RV Life is the name of our parent organization, nothing to do with life insurance. Look at the tag line in our logo at the top and bottom of the page: "An RV Life Company".

Maybe you have ads or spam from your email provider or ISP?

We've continued to make adjustments. AI isn't perfect, but neither were thread titles (it's a pet peeve of mine).

A thread title of "help" just wasn't very useful, and folks scrolled on by, search ignored it, and the person who needed "help" didn't get any.... :)
