A member reported that an RV mattress was causing hip pain for both sleepers during a trip and wanted a fix that would not add much towing weight, noting they do not like memory foam. Several members suggested trying a topper first because RV mattresses are often firm, thin, or odd-sized, with one member saying a 3 to 4 inch topper is inexpensive and easy, while others mentioned Sleep Number or other air-adjustable mattresses as lighter and adjustable for each side.

Have you tried sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees. I find that it helps me sometimes between visits to the chiropractor.

A 3-4" Topper is cheep and easy....
I think that is way too soft. An inch, maybe an inch and a half, will do nicely. 3-4 inches will only worsen the pain as you sink into the topper.

Try RVMattress.com or Wildwood RV Mattress. They both build to order and have 120 sleep trial periods. Check one of the many YouTube RV'ers like Changing Lanes or RVMiles for a 30% off coupon for RVMattress.

We bought the Serta toppers. Big difference between these and the cheap no name knockoffs.
You want it to conform to your body. Thin ones can't do that.

If it only bothers him because of the mattress what good will it do to go to a doctor?
Once you're on a regimen of prescription meds, therapy and specialist appointments you'll forget all about the mattress.

I'm in the same boat with shoes. Most make my plantar fasciitis flare after a couple weeks no matter what brand or price. When I find 'the one' I'm golden until I can't get that shoe anymore and I start the hunt over. It's the same with a mattress, won't know if it's a winner or not until I try it for a while. How many do you buy to find out? So I keep one as long as I can so I don't have to deal with the hunt.

Meds only cover up the cause. Even therapy without a recommendation on what needs to be targeted can make things worse.
As far as your PF, mild stretching exercises of the band that goes across your foot help. I had a therapist that had me roll a golf ball fore and aft gently on the bottom of my foot. It will stretch the ligament that is causing the problem. It hurt like heck at first. Another exercise is to stand with your toes on the end of a step and raise and lower your body slightly.
These were recommended by the ortho.
It can also be caused by a weak achlilles tendon or tight calf muscles or even other leg and muscle problems higher up.
I went through this years ago and it took a good two months for the pain to go away.

Was kidding about the meds, of course you do anything you can to stay out of the medical merry go round.

I went through the PF therapies with no relief until I came across a utoob that suggested it's often circulation, not an inflammation issue. No amount of 'stretching' will help. I met someone that suggested a particular new balance shoe along with an orthodic and after a week things improved, after a couple months it was like it never happened. I wish I could nail down the support/stiffness recipe to help in the hunt for shoes but at least I know a solution is possible other than treatments that don't work and suffering through it. I walk a hundred miles a month and have for the last 20+ years, don't want to give that up
