RV parks near New York City with a large dog

My husband and I will be traveling to New York City in our 38-ft motorhome. We would like to explore the city with our 65 lb Bulldog. Any recommendations for RV parks near there. We are considering Liberty Harbor RV for close proximity to the city via ferry (which will hopefully allow our dog. Black Bear campground would also be an option since we could drive as close to the city as possible if we can find parking. Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. I would call the parks and ask them what their dog policies are. Same with the ferry. I would think that you won’t get to see much of the city having a dog in tow. Most places will not allow them unless they are a service dog. Maybe a dog kennel would be the way to go. The campgrounds should be able to help you with that.

There is a campground in Westchester County right near the Croton Harmon Metro North train station that will take you directly into Manhattan - it's called Croton Point Family Campground and is run by Westchester County Parks Dept. It's a nice train ride - about an hour long but it's right along the Hudson River and very scenic. The park is a beautiful, wooded location right on the Hudson River. It may be a more suitable stay if you have a dog. Liberty RV Park is basically a parking lot.
There is absolutely no way you are going to be able to enjoy the city with a 65 pound bulldog. There are not many places that will let you in and I just think it would be a hassle. There are probably some doggy day care centers near Croton Point that would allow you to board the dog for a few hours while you are gone.
There are also many beautiful places to visit north of the city so staying at Croton Point would allow you access to both north and south destinations

Thank you for your response. We just want to walk around NYC to see as much as possible. The major thing we want to go into is the Empire State Building, so we could take turns if she is with us. We were only going to plan a couple of days to see as much of the city as possible because we are traveling with the dog. Thanks again?

I parked our 37’ 5th wheel at Liberty Marina & RV Park for several days for my wife and some friends from NZ to use while visiting NYC. Your problem will be getting your dog into the city. They took the train in every day. I don’t think your dog will be able to get on the train.

I'm curious why they didn't take the ferry since I understand that it's very close to that RV park. Our dog is allowed on the ferry as long as she has a muzzle on.

I wasn’t with them so can’t answer that question. I dropped the RV off for them and picked it up when they were done. It seemed like that park was convenient for there needs.
