RV rental in LA?

Hi!

I will be travelling from London to LA this spring, and wonder if anyone could recommend a good RV rental company?

I am just looking for one of the cheapest options (there will only be two of us in the rv), and something reliable. We will both pick up and leave the rv in LA, we are going to go out to some national parks including Joshua Tree.

The two biggest rental agencies in LA are El Monte Rents and Cruise America.  According to my informal surveys over the past decade, the two provide good service and RVs.    El Monte can be found at http://www.elmonterv.com/.  Cruise America at  http://www.cruiseamerica.com/.

El Monte is head quartered in LA at Santa Fe Springs and has LAX-Santa Fe Springs servicing.  They are quite accustomed  to dealing with European tourists -- as is Cruise America.

If you plan on February or March you will have a good time.? ?By late April things are getting rather warm in the desert.

Joshua Tree is a great spot but also consider Anza Borrego Desert State Park in back of San Diego.? Great desert country with more tourist facilities, 3 very good RV resorts (our favorite is Palm Canyon RV Resort).? They also have Jeep tours into the back country which is more accessable than Joshua.? ?Take a look at http://www.desertusa.com/anza_borrego/du_abp_desc.html for info.

I will look up these companies and see what I can find.

During my last visit to California we went to Joshua Tree National park, this was during July, and yes it was hot! (Coming from the much colder Sweden I did quite enjoy it though...) This time we look forward to see the more varied flora of the desert in spring. I will look up Anza Borrego though, thanks for your tip.

Joshua Tree NP is in the high, Mojave, desert of which the Joshua tree is a marker.  Anza Borrego DSP is in the low, Colorado, desert of which the whip-like ocotillo is the marker.    The bloom of the lower desert in March is quite spectacular in the event of a wet winter -- tho so far we are a bit on the dry side.  As I said Borrego has more accessible back country than Joshua.  There is a AB Desert Natural History Association in Borrego Springs which has an active tour and presentation schedule, see them at http://www.california-desert.org/index.html.    And as I said, there are jeep tours.  The Fish Canyon Drainage is a particularly spectacular back country tour.

I rented a 25 foot class C motorhome from Motouris in LA.? Good company to work with.? If you are going to return the RV on a Saturday be aware that they close at noon.? I didn't pay attention and it cost me an extra days rental.

El Monte RV is excellent.  I used them many times.  I had an accident in one, very slight fender bender. The El Monte folks charged $110 bucks to fix what I thought would run in the thousands. I actually met with the General Manager to ask him about it.  He basically said that they want to keep the coaches in pristine condition for resale and not gouge the renters because they want them to return.  They are excellent to deal with.
