The Ohio RV and Boat Show starts today at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, OH. We attended a prior RV show at this location, but tramping through the snow to look at RVs didn't seem natural. Maybe it works for the locals dreaming of summer days, but I'm staying in a warm location for the incoming snow storm this weekend.

Wow, here in Indy they put the big show in the Fairgrounds large buildings (going on this weekend). I can't imagine how trashed the floors will be in all those RVs.

Here in OH they're largely indoors, but folks still tramp through the snow to get there.

Suffern, NY has their's around valentine's day. It is a bit of a walk through the registration area before you get to the actual units so shoes get cleaned off pretty good

When I lived in WA state we decided to look at mobile homes (not RVs) one sub-freezing morning. The first one we stepped into was 55 degrees inside despite temperatures being in the mid to low 20s overnight. Thanks to WA state's incredible insulation standards the only heat sources were single 60-100 watt light bulbs left on in each room, which I confirmed by noting the 20 amp temporary electrical connection to the house.

If you want great weather, you should have stayed home!

It hit 72°F/22.222°C here in Auburn yesterday. Perhaps was even warmer in Discovery Bay.

Today has cooled off a little, 62°F will be the peak. Still a nice day for January.

I'm not looking for great weather, nor am I interested in visiting this or any other RV show; I was merely commenting on what locals here in OH have to go through - driving in a snow storm, then plodding through the snow to view RVs with outside TVs. Overnight temps are in single digits and daytime highs low 20's. I stick my head in the garage and promptly close the door brrrr.

They could reschedule

I woyldnt have a problem attending an rv show in the snow but i certainly wouldnt buy one there with all the dirt and snow people would be bringing in
I don't recall if they merely take orders for future delivery.

RV show coming up shortly here in Denver, too- cold weather, possible snow, sometimes windy, but they do it every year, probably because the dealers have minimal activity this time of year. There are also home shows, boat shows, and shows for other outdoor activities here in Jan and Feb - again probably that's when they have time and they always get many orders during their most slack period.

Well, the ones here don't have people taking them home (they're inside a downtown building, often on the second floor, and no customer vehicles could get to them) -- instead they take the orders and deliver later, after proper prep (hopefully) and the customers getting whatever orientation and walkthroughs the dealer offers before taking the rigs home from the dealer's lot.

They also get future customers who don't buy at the show. I'm an example: 20+ years ago I attended a couple of RV shows here and in one of them a lady in high heels was opening and closing (complete setup, actually) a Trailmanor folding travel trailer ( TrailManor – Light, Easy-Towing Travel Trailers ). I was so impressed that a few months later we saw one at that dealer's lot and bought it. No doubt many other folks do similarly.

My setup videos from long ago:

Is there any advantage of RV shows?

When I was RV shopping at RV Country in Sparks, NV, they told me that they had an RV show going on at that time, and many of their motorhomes were at the show. They also told me I would get a better deal there at the dealership than at their show. But I assume they tell the people at the show they are getting a better deal there at the RV show, in this world that runs on BS. I never went to the RV show that was just a few miles away at the Grand Sierra Casino in Reno.

The new motorhome I purchased already had ~3,500 miles on it. Most likely from being driven to other shows farther away.

Would new RV buyers be better off if RV shows did not exist? If there is an advantage to buying at the shows, what is it?

The Dallas RV show is next month indoors at Dallas Market Hall. Good thing. Right now we are buried under what looks like centimeters of snow! Hopefully it'll be gone by next month!

That works too but usually there are far more brands at rv shows.
I managed to look at a few hundred. I would not want to look at any more than that unless I could find a small Class A diesel, which I don't think exists these days. Not sure if I would want one, but I would want to at least take a look, since I had another couple of hundred K$ to blow after selling my third house. But I am happy with the gas one I did buy. Just the normal small stuff for problems.
