I had a interesting experience with regards to finding a place to replace my passenger side front window glass in my RV. I am sharing this as I think people have to be careful with what seems to be going on. This is longer than I like to post but the details are necessary. I didn’t use any company names.

First I got a couple of quotes for replacement. First place was higher and another quote was $265 lower. At first it seem the lower cost place was the place to do business with. That place both called me and emailed me with regards to the replacement. The name of the place was dealing in RV Glass. They seem to take over even though I hadn’t decided who I wanted to do the work at that time.

The second place came across as the one I HAD to do business with, without my having decided yet. Further more and a interesting twist to the whole affair, they were going to use the first place I had a quote from, to do the actual work to replace the glass. I could see that would not be so good having two different companies involved in one job.

I was told by the second place they were the administrators and I had to go through them and suggested State Farm uses them for RV Glass replacement. I talk to the second companies representative and he was trying to rush this all through even though I had not decide. Last phone call from the second RV Glass place, I tried to get details about what was being said and the rep. was wishy-washy and not giving me straight facts, interrupting me when I asked questions. This upset me to the point of me telling him I would decide on Monday who I WOULD do business with.

Talking to the first place he told me there is a well known company that is trying to take over all the glass business in the USA. They do car and other vehicle glass replacement as well as RV Glass replacement. I was told there are monopoly lawsuits from the independent glass replacement places. So I decided to have the first place do my glass replacement and emailed and called the second place and told them I would not be doing business with them.

This is a heads up just in case you have your RV window glass replaced. I think my agent might have steer me in to this whole mess and might have wanted me to do business with the second place, though I don’t have any real proof of this. I know he was uncooperative when I tried to get info from him and advise him of what I went through.

caveat emptor

The only large company I know of which might be suspected of monopolizing the auto glass business is Safelite. We used them for our Outback windshield replacement and they were pretty good. None of that comes across as a scam.

It might not be perfectly a scam, but trying to make someone think they don't have a choice is certainly bordering on that.

The idea of my post was to alert others and not to debate if it was a scam. Best!

High pressure sales and dubious advertising isn't what I call a "scam" but it's still something to be on the lookout for. Sales networks, where a supplier or distributor effectively controls a large swath of the retail shops, can seem like a monopoly. And sometimes acts like one too.

There are a few key words or phrases that SCREME Scam to me though I did not see them in the story>?
Today only
One hour ()next xx minutes)
Almost sold out

Now when I see that same add.. every day for a month.> SCAM.
