It was beautiful the first day. Drove up and managed the steep hill that proceeds the camping areas at the first entrance. After setting up we drove to Wall Drug for a burger to go. Free advice. Make a sandwich at your RV.

The second day we had a wonderful drive through the Badlands. Compared to the last time, maybe 10 years ago, it was amazing. The views were incredible. It was in the upper 60's and clear. The nasty gnats we encountered the first time were waiting for warmer weather. On the way back we stopped at the new Missile Site. The weather turned and it was starting to rain. From there it went down hill. Returning to the campsite, a 20 miles drive on I-90 W, it started to hail. Fortunately it didn't last long and we only had a few miles to go. However, when we got back to the Pace, the hail started again. This time accompanied by strong(er) winds. I managed to get the umbrella out the Jeep's door so somewhat protected when walking to the Pace.

Spent the night wondering why the motion activated LED lights outside kept going off. Was it the rain or little critters hoping to find some yummy wires to chew on. Kept me up half the night. Forecast is not great. Hoping the weather guys got it wrong and we can leave tomorrow. Just not sure which way to go.

For those of you who have camped at this amazing place and left when the rain soaked roads were slippery, which of the two entrances is the safest to exit?

Years ago when I owned a motorcycle dealership in So.Cal. I went to Sturgis S.D. every year (riding of course),, And every year while there it hailed large, doing a fair amount of damage to all the bikes in the open areas.. I will never forget the police cars slowly going thru town announcing the hail coming in 30 minutes..>>>Dan

It hailed the last day we were there. Probably 5 minutes before we got to the RV. Managed to get an umbrella out the door of the Jeep and open it so we could walk the 10 feet to the Pace without being pummeled. Thankfully wasn't golf ball size hail and it didn't last. We don't get much hail in L.A. The last time we were in a hail storm was maybe 7 or 8 years ago. That was in Hill City SD and it looked like it had snowed.
