We stayed there last year without any problems. I understand that the RV park will be closing this year so they can expand the casino. Make sure it is still open if you go.

Sam's Town itself is no problem, but the area around it is a bit run down. It's also quite a distance from the Strip and Downtown.
Some other alternatives might be the KOA, I believe, at Circus Circus, or either the Oasis or Outdoor Resorts South of the strip.

There are a couple of casino RV lots near Sam's Town. I found NO VACANCY signs up there when I visited in January, did not return to them in Feburary. I did find a little out of sight RV park (Hidden Village) a bit north of Sam's Town on Boulder HWY if memroy serves... Let me check map Yup, Bolder just s/o Lamb on the East side of Bolder, kind of hard to spot, next to a car wash, under construction (they are expanding sites) full hookups
But Both Sam's Town and Arizona Charlie's said I needed reservations well in advance. Hidden village I did not
This is, of course, in East Las Vegas and as others have said a bit of a drive from "The Strip"
(Closer to darling daughter though,,, She lives on North Nellis)
ON the return to Vegas in Feburary I'd made arraingments with "The Hitching Post" (Even closer to DD) which is in North Las Vegas, I was assured I did not need a reservation however on my way into town called ahead (A good idea) and was told "No Room" So I called the KOA at Circus Circus, plunty of room. Right in the middle of all the action (M-15 and Saraha area, walking distance to Las Vegas Bvld and about 3 casinos including CC

There is a growing crime problem in Las Vegas and roaming gangs have made RV's a target. When some of the RV parking areas without security are considered, it's better to move away from the lure of being "next door" to a casino. Resorts like Oasis have security and also cheap transportation to the Strip.

I stayed 2 weeks at Circus Circus and the only problem I had was the inabality to connect to Hughs Internet service
Wi-Fi worked however (Free in that park)
Of course the camper next door was a work-camper, that is staffer at the facility (I was in 711 he was 712)
We had no security problems.
OF course we were in and out of the rig often, there were 3 of us and we often went off on our own with one left behind, Seeing folks enter and leave the rig at odd times tend to discourage unplesant folks... Max (the canine) may be small but he barks loud too. and he was a very "Yappy Camper" (Not a problem for the neighbors cause he stayed indoors and the rig is good sound wise, but it discourages intruders none the less)
I did not have a noise issue when in the rig... I simply turned on the AC in "FAN" mode, this creates something akin to "White Noise" which masks outside sounds, It also helps equalize temperture between front and back (Front AC was usually in Heat mode since it currently controls the furnance,,, I got to change that, stupid design)

All of Vegas and Clark County ( including North Las Vegas, Laughlin and Henderson) has gone downhill over the years and the gang, drug, murder problems are a real issue. Clark County has a real problem and I can see the changes; "
Metropolitan Las Vegas is witnessing an increase in murder and rape crimes, said Clark County Sheriff Bill Young.
Last year there were 31 eligible death penalty cases in the county, Young said, and 33 so far this year. To date, there are 126 murder trials pending in Clark County, Young said.
Property crimes, especially auto thefts, are up in Las Vegas, ranking the city as No. 2 or 3 in the nation for such crimes, Young said.
He attributed the increase to the region's rapid growth and demographic change, particularly the rise in the number of gangs that have moved in.
Gang-related shootings in Las Vegas have risen in the first six months of 2006 by nearly 50 percent compared to a year ago.
"Los Angeles has made southern Nevada gang turf," Young said. "All the action is coming here."

I have never stayed at Sam's town, but I have visited there and love it! They have the world's largest country western clothing store and the best two step dance floor I have ever danced on!!!!

Schleppers if I've spelled it properly, It is exactly what the other poster said it is, a country-western clothing store, Nothing in it at all that I found surprising. Lots of country clothing, good selection, I'm likely going to have to shop there cause I"m not easy to fit off the rack and I like to dance squarly

I suspect Nashville has decent C&W clothing stores too.. As does (or did, have not visited in a while) Livonia Michigan.
Of course. One of the fun things is since I grew up on a Dairy Farm I guess I'm a genuine cow boy arn't I. And yes, i do know how to saddle and ride a horse, done so many times.

The one in Sam'sTown, if it is the same one I visited 30 years ago, is AWESOME. they bill themselves as the largest CW clothing store in the world. I remember looking at a collection of One Horse Charllie cowboy hats that took up about 300 square feet. some of the hats were selling for $800 to $900. Really cool ones with scorpions embedded in them and sterling silver hatbands with jewels, etc. It was like going to a museum. Acres of shirts , pants, boots. All the top quality stuff, right down to the inexpensive stuff. Some things were offered on sale and really good prices. You could easily spend an entire day in there wandering about.
