I recently purchased a 24ft Class C 1983 HR Ambassador.
The PO redid a few things here, removed a couple things there and I'm looking for advice on how to replace said removed things.
Specifically the middle removable section for the overhead bed.
Currently there is a board placed up there to cover the hole that I am assuming came out of another motorhome as it doesn't "belong" up there that I found while removing the foam that they had up there for a bed so I could purchase a different mattress to put up there.
I would like to replace the original removable section of the bed support but am currently unsure of how to do so and have had an extremely hard time finding anything online that could help me.
I don't know.
Maybe I'm searching for it wrong
But could someone please please give me some idea on how to do so so that I may get my bed back together?
The dinette bed is not so very comfortable to sleep on.

Photos of what you're talking about will help immensely. There will be little to no formal documentation for this vintage RV so your best bet is experience and expertise of the forum members.

The cab over bed on my Winnebago View was hinged at the front and was a mattress with a steel frame inside of it, and pneumatic lift cylinders to assist in raising it out of the way for cab ingress/egress to the coach.

You will need to engineer a support, probably a section of 3/4 plywood with a mattress on top of it. You will be ducking under the bed, but that is probably not a huge issue.

There are many different ways HR could have done this, so the only way to really replicate the original is to find someone with one of similar vintage.

We had a Georgia Boy that was exactly as Charles describes. It was a metal bed frame that pull down and out for sleeping or in and up for driving. Interesting thing is we left that bed in the sleeping position the entire time we had it. You would have to find that bed frame from a salvage yard or something. Otherwise just build a stationary frame.

As Mark has suggested, some pictures of what you have now would help a lot. We had an 87 Allegro that had a bed above the master bed that folded up to be 3 storage cabinets or laid flat to be another bed. It sounds like you have something similar.
