We are planning on a new Winnebago class C and have zeroed in on the floor plan. It has one slide that has the sofa and dinette in it. We are going to remove the sofa and put in its place two fairly small recliners. I did this in our current class C and we have been happy with the setup for 7 years.

I recently emailed a Winnebago Factory Rep asking if the factory would allow us to special order a rig with the sofa not installed, just empty space where the sofa is supposed to be. The response I got back, which sounded like it was written by corporate lawyers, implied that if I did so, we would be presented with every misfortune known to mankind.

So what I am wondering, am I crazy? It is only my wife and me and neither of us would ever sit in one of the recliners while under way. The ones in our current rig are well secured to the floor of the slide with right angle steel brackets and short sheet metal screws.

As I said, we have been happy with this for 7 years. No problems.

Is there any good reason to not do it again?

I would only order without the sofa if they are giving a price reduction, otherwise I am with the others buy with the sofa, and sell it.  There are always people with older RV's that have either worn out or uncomfortable sofas in search of replacements.

The factory rep made it clear they will not sell it without the sofa. That leaves us with no option but to remove it.

Find a place to store it, the next owner will probably want it.

Your situation is not at all unusual.  Larger dealers often have a room or even a warehouse full of brand new furniture removed from RVs. The dealer probably won't pay you anything for it, but he will probably take it off your hands if you can't find a buyer yourself.

The Factory rep said they will not sell it without the Sofa?    Well.. when they say something like that you simply say "OK" and show him your behind walking out a door... Odds are very good you will get a "Wait,,, Wait.. Let me double check" before you can actually open that door.
