On our route west, we will be traveling near The Texas Hill Country and want to stop as I have heard it is worth taking a drive through, especially in Spring.  I understand the Texas Hill Country has several towns so I am looking for suggestions which town(s) for a two night stay would be the most advantageous, a suggested driving route and anything worth seeing or doing there.

I would stay in the area of Fredricksburg, Tx.  It's a really neat German town and also has the Museum of the Southwest Pacific War which is really one of the best museums I've seen.  That whole area is really nice.  Also just south of there is Kerrville.  Another really nice spot.

I agree with the above if ww2 interests you then plan at least 2 full days to see the museum.

Also consider the south end of the hill country around Rio Frio and lost maples recreation area

X2 Fredericksburg. We stayed at the KOA but you can check out the reviews at rv park reviews websitre. Nearby is a neat bat cave and a great place to see the bats come out at dusk...much better than the one at Carlsbad. Also, you must make a fun stop at Luckenbach for a while...everybody is somebody there. Easy drive from Fredericksburg. Also an easy day trip is to the LBJ ranch. Good beer and good food around Fredericksburg.

We visited Hill Country with friends from Conroe, Houston.  We enjoyed it and visited the following places over a long weekend:

Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner

San Antonio where we went to the Alamo and wandered and did the boat ride along the River Walk where the infamous  Dick's Last Resort restaurant is located.

Luckenbach which we almost drove past, I loved that.

Fredericksburg is as lovely town, lots of nice shops, restaurants etc. We didn't do the museum.

Gruene pronounced Green, where the oldest dance hall in Texas is located and we saw Kevin Costener's band play, a great night although very hot.

New Braunfels where you can float in a tube down the Comal River and the Schlitterbahn Waterpark is located.  We were going to stay at the River Ranch RV park but ended up not taking the trailer down there and they were very good about letting us cancel.

We had also been going to stay at Canyon of the Eagles State Park which looks great although very busy..

Have  fun.

We just spent 4 nights at Pedernales Falls St Pk outside of Johnson City. We spent the mornings hiking in the park and then visited some of the many wineries in the area in the afternoons.  It?s about 30 minutes from Fredericksburg, and only offers water/electric sites, but the sites are huge, and the price is right.

X2 on everything jackiemac posted and I would also like to add The River Road.  The road travels along the Guadulupe River from Canyon Lake into New Braunfels.  An enjoyable road trip but may be a little tricky with a camper in tow.

We are in Fredricksburg right now. We are staying at the Vineyard.  There is a rally here and the park is may be full.  The area is very nice and the number of German restaurants reflects the area's heritage.  There is a lot to see here and a number of wineries.  You did not say which route you were taking, but there is road construction around both San Antonio and Austin.  Narrow lanes in both  places. Enjoy your trip.

We have been thinking about taking a trip over to Fredericksburg again soon, have not been there in about a year, do you know how the road construction is going towards Austin, we typically take 71 from Bastrap to 290?

Thank you.  We will be traveling west on the I-10, right now we are just east of Mobile, Alabama.
