Shoot, came down with Covid

This past Monday and Tuesday I spent time in a Boston hospital for my annual check up for amyloidosis. I stayed at a hotel within walking distance to the hospital. There are a ton of homeless people I’d pass each day walking to and from the hospital. The lobby at the hotel, no one wore masks. In the hospital, it was mandatory. I came home Tuesday night and felt great. Wednesday during the day I felt great. It all started after I went to bed. I started with a small cough. During the day on Thursday, same cough. I had no other symptoms. Checked my temperature and it was normal. I went ahead and scheduled a Covid test appointment for Friday morning at my local CVS. Finally I got my tesults back this morning. POSITIVE..
I actually feel good right now. My cough has subsided and still no other symptoms. Through a link provided with my results I was able to schedule a monoclonal treatment. I don’t know if I need it really. I’m going to try and contact my PCP in a few minutes and see what he says.

Update: I received a call from the pharmacy. She said that in order to get the treatment it has to be taken within 5 days. It’s been about 4 days for me so I’m right on the fence. She said she was not in favor of this treatment and because of another medication I take (Atovastatin) I could end up with more problems than none. Because I am starting to feel better I opted not to be treated. So I have to just take it easy for the next couple of days then I should be good to go as long as I continue to wear a mask. Now as long as my DW doesn’t get it from me, we’ll be all set for now. I stayed away from her since Wednesday night and sleeping on the couch. Tonight, I’m going to the spare bedroom instead of the couch.

Bummer Rene. I assume this is the omicron variant? It's been running rampant, but the symptoms are less severe.

Interesting. I take Atorvastatin (sp?) and, when we contracted Covid/delta last year, the Doc had no qualms about prescribing monoclonal antibodies.

Interesting for me too. I also take Atorvastatin.

My sister and husband got it a couple of weeks ago. They had a pretty bad 4 days but no hospitalizing. Both got the Paxlovid treatment.

I hope it stays mild, I'm no DR but I'm glad your cough is going away, sounds positive. many have mild symtoms, I had it a few months back, nasty sore throat 2 days and gone. Alka Selzer nightime was a a blessing. Good luck.

Half the population is on statins and atorvastatin is one of the most popular and least expensive.

Hope your symptoms go away soon.

I wouldn't be too quick to condemn those sources. Any hospital is a great place to pick up infections of most any sort.

Our youngest son & wife are both vaccinated with 1 booster and they too had it but it only lasted for 3 days and both tested negative after 1 week. It seems that since the newer mutations it seems that it is much easier to get even if vaccinated but you also are less sick and it doesn't last long.

I was wondering if I should get retested again and after how many days since I 1st had symptoms which last Wednesday night.

The pharmacy told me I only had to self isolate for 5 days so as long as I continue feeling better, I should be good to go this Tuesday but I still need to wear a mask when I’m in public

We're eager to return home to NH, but a bit concerned about rising Covid numbers there.
We''re both vaccinated and double-boosted and hope that we'll stay safe when we get home.

Thanks. I think no matter where you go you’ll find the cases are going up. I think the majority of the cases have minor symptoms like me and if I had just waited 1 more day, i wouldn’t have become a statistic because I was feeling better the day after I got tested.

Well, I'll just say this - Covid tests are not 100% accurate. I had symptoms two weeks ago - did a self test=positive, went to the ER, test=negative, my symptoms (very mild) went away in 3 days. So who is a person to believe? I am vacinated and double boosted - so I have faith that if it was covid, that the vacinations likely helped. IDK

It is all a percentage game
Some folks (IE My brother) not vaccinated. tested positive, no symptoms. recovered, tested negative he was lucky... Very good chance I have an immune system like his but.. WHY TAKE THE CHANCE (you did not and you are recovering)
Two more groups of no-vax.. Some recover with medical help.. Some don't (Die).

Then there are the vaccinated (As I said why take the chance)
Odds are way way better of recovery with few symptoms (Sounds like you are there)
or even not getting it (So far I'm there)

Odds of Hospital and/or death.. Way way way less (like 1/100th the no-vax folks).
Like I said "Why take chances" Glad to hear you got your shot. Recover in good health.

Glad you are doing well Rene. When I got it, undoubtably at the FMCA convention, I had the sinus cold from ****! I didn’t know that much junk could be generated by sinuses. I also slept 12-14 hours a day for a week, and I was easily exhausted for another two weeks. My temperature never went up, and my pulse ox was steady at 98-100%, so I just reported myself to my local PCP when I got home. Double vaxed plus boosted. I am curious why you went to the pharmacy for a test though. We just used the tests we got at home.

I have some test kits in our second home in FL and I forgot to take them back with me to NH. I do have some kits ordered through the government but don’t know when they will get here.
I went out today for the first time in four days (except to get tested on Fri). That felt good. I had to put my flags up for tomorrow.
