.... I stumbled into the Mountain Dulcimer.
A couple weekends ago, Oakley Plantation presented their Jane Austin Christmas. My wife and I were door keepers inside the plantation house. We both were on the second floor.
In the grand parlor they had a group of Dulcimer players perform, playing a variety of Christmas music and when asked, would answer questions about the Mountain Dulcimers they were playing.
My wife and I were so impressed, we ordered a simple, non expensive starter Mountain Dulcimer and we've been strumming along happily ever after.
Actually, the instrument is very easy to play if anyone has any familiarity with a piano key board. My wife is working on cords, I'm just straight playing by ear as I don't read music at all.
The Mountain Dulcimer has a relaxing, peaceful, soothing sound and when played softly makes a beautiful sound.
So now, I've added one more "thing" to drag along in the camper.... my Diatonic Accordion, my variety of Harmonicas, and now the Mountain Dulcimer.
I play the Harmonica the best, but the Dulcimer has the sound I now enjoy most. The accordion is just fun to play.
No.... I'm not real interested in the Hammered Dulcimer or the Auto Harp, although I love their sound too. The Mandilion reminds me too much of a guitar, which I've tried and can't do the fingering, and all I can accomplish on the violin is to squack out .... yep, you guessed it ... squalking!
So the Mountain Dulcimer is a real treat for us now!
I'm loving this 1821 time period lifestyle!
