Headed to Skidaway Island State Park in Savannah, GA for a quick 3 day spur of the moment getaway.  Believe it or not I have never been to Savannah and was looking for suggestions on sites and restaurants and the like.  Also wondered if anyone has been to that campground and if so what were their thoughts on the park.

Thanks!

Glenn and Tami

We stayed there a couple of nights last March and enjoyed the stay.  The campsites are large and there are several nice hiking trails.  Mosquitoes were bad on the trails, but were not bad around the campground.  You may have a few tight turns with your 5th wheel, be careful.

We enjoyed walking around Savannah.  We parked on the south side of Forsyth park, walked through the park and up Bull Street to the river front.  There are numerous historical markers along this route.  The river front has a lot of tourist oriented restaurants and shops.

We will go back the next time we are in the area.

Lots to do in the area including the riverfront and parks in the city. I would recommend the jump on/off trolly and lunch or dinner at Paula Deans. Make sure you go make reservations, there is usually a wait.

Lots to do in the Savannah area, check out the River Street. Great state park campground. We stayed in the first loop to the right as you turn in.

Skidaway...great place. Parking is limited in town, especially near the river. Since this is your first time, suggest going to the visitor center and parking there. Get a ticket for the on/off trolley and get a feel for the city. The next two days, figure where you can park and then you can pretty much walk everywhere. IMHO, Paula Dean's is overrated. Plenty of other good places to eat. Try the Olde Pink House (ask to sit in the basement room), Mrs Wilkes, several places on River St, Zunzi's Takeout for lunch. More good places in SAV than you can handle in 3 days.  ;D

I worked in Savannah for 6 months, and LOVED it!

The Olde Pink House is a MUST for dinner - make sure you try their signature dish, its a fried flounder, AWESOME!

Elizabeths on 37th is also very good, as is The Mansion but both are more expensive and fancier.

A walk down River Street with alsol yield LOTS of options for food, drink, entertainment; River Street Sweets for a confectionary treat!

I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the restaurant, but outside Savannah, toward Tybbee Island, is a CASUAL oyster bar/shuckin shack/ peel & eat place that shares a parking lot with an alligator farm/park/zoo kind of place.  A VERY cool place to visit and the ambience and food are just fun and fantastic!

Have a GREAT trip!

Good RV Park. Tough on Satellite.  Park at vistor center. On-Off Trolley the best way to see the city.  Olde Pink house is great, do the self guided tour of the bldg.  Paula's a waste of time and $. JMO

Thank everyone for the suggestions.  Especially going to the Welcome center and taking the train.  Trying to park the fat behind of a dually we have would have been a task!  5vr is all pre flighted and ready to go!

Not all that far from Skidaway SP is the Toucan Cafe, 531 Stephenson Ave Savannah, GA.  We have gone back there several times and always been happy.  Better than down town in our book.  http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/282/1229867/restaurant/Toucan-Cafe-Savannah

And don't get your rug out at Skidaway.  The tiny black No-see-ums are really bad at times.  We could put up with them, but we shook the rug out before folding it up and they came out of it real bad and got all over us.  Miserable trip home.  So on the next visit the rug will stay in the compartment.
