Slide topper and possibly roller damaged

Thanks for the link Jen. I looked at the reviews for the RV Awning Co. and they're pretty dismal.
 
As posted in a different thread, the slide topper was replaced. However, because the hex rods, (extension rods) or whatever they're called, are bent, the topper roller continues to be pulled over the side of the slide wall when retracting the slide. A temporary fix has worked but I need to replace the bars that were bent.

Looking at a couple of videos, it doesn't look difficult. My plan would be to secure the roller from unraveling and one rod at a time. It looks like the rod just slides through the bracket and into the arm that holds the topper. Then it's just a matter of securing the rod.

Anyone replace the rod and if so are there any issues I need to be aware of?

Another thought I had is to remove the bars and reinsert them so the bowed ends are facing out. My only concern is whether or not that would possibly keep the slide from coming in all the way.
