I m considering installing a small solar panel (100 W) on the roof of my class C just to maintain the battery while in storage. How safe is it to drill on the roof to install the bracket? My intent is just to keep the batteries from draining dead. I may keep the RV in storage for a long period of time. I do have a battery cut off switch.
There is an SAE connector outside close to the batteries bank labeled SOLAR READY. I'm told by Forest River that there is a 10A fuse in line and that the connector ties directly to the batteries. I do not want to leave the solar panel just sitting next to the RV for obvious reasons (they grow legs).
So is my batteries safe without the solar panel or should I install one?
Thanks for any help.
