Some Unusual Australian 5th Wheelers and Tugs

Here are some that will have you scratching your heads: A 35ft 5Ver 14,000lb towed by a IVECO Daily tug. You can also get a RAM 2500 set up by the Company.. The IVECO will do 55mph up a hill where the RAM will do 70mph. On the other hand it has better fuel consumption and ride laden or unladen.

Same 5ver pulled by a MDT Hino. Owner found it climbed hills better than a Pickup, better turning circle and air
ride suspension makes it very comfortable.

An Off Road 5ver about 27ft with a 31ft  Australian Winnebago Class C, 27,000lb GCVWR(absolutely nothing to with the US Company) behind.

A 23ft 5ver towed by a diesel Nissan Navara(No it is not a Frontier) in the snow. 3 Litre Diesel powered Asian sourced pickups will tow lightweight 8000lb to 9000lb 5Vers without much difficulty. Payload is generally twice of a US Midsize Pickup i.e 2500lb for a Dual Cab
Pickup.

Cool rigs! I like the Hino, nice looking truck. Problem is that all the 5'ers have the door and awnings on the wrong side.

The Hino 300(one in the Photo) is a Light Truck in Australia. Would be classed as a Medium in the US. The Hino 500 Medium range goes to 57,000lb GVWR and 99,000lb GCVWR. Weights are a lot heavier in Australia for Light, Medium and Heavy Trucks. A Dodge Ram Dually would be called normally a "Ute" rather than a truck as it is more a CAR/Truck. You only need a general car licence to drive anything under 10,000lbs GVWR a basic Truck licence above that. That is why F250-F450's are either "Pickups" or "Utes" or "Cars" sometimes "Trucks" by people using RV's . A F450 would exceed the 10,000lb limit , but it more CAR/Truck aspect would put it into the CAR/Truck or Ute category.
The vast majority of US Pickups are used  by RVers but they make up a small percentage of Tow vehicles used by RVers.. Some much older ones will be converted to Utes. Others like brand new F250/F350's, Dodge 2500/3500HD's, Silverado HD's are just driven around. F150's, Ram 1500's and Base Silverado's are as rare as hens teeth

"Driving on the Wrong side of the Road" is definitely the Right Side here!!  .  When I was driving in Hawaii I found EVERYONE was driving on the wrong side of the road ;D
