I'm looking for a lake in Southern California (we live in Orange county), to go Rving.  We are hoping to find an RV campground on a lake that allow for boat rental, and swimming.  We enjoyed Lake Perris, but we were very far from the lake.  Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

In the Santa Ynes Valley north of Santa Barbara:  Lake Cachuma.  Good lake.  Decent fishing.  Outstanding ranger nature program.  Full, W&E, and dry sites.  Good facilities.  Swimming pool.  Marina, launch ramp, rental boats.  No reservations taken but you should not have a problem with any kind of site if you arrive Monday thru Thursday.  Friday gets iffier as the day drags on.

In the Ojai area:  Lake Casitas.  Good lake, world class large mouth bass fishing,  no programs.  Sites from full to dry.  Marina, launch ramp, rental boats.  Reservations possible if you can get thru their really bad phone system.

Check out Santee Lakes,  San Diego. www.santeelakes.com  - about a 2hr drive from O.C.    They have a great website, where you can look at any specific site and reserve on-line.  Some of the sites are lakeside where you can park right against the water and fish.  I was recently catching carp (using bread) upwards of 25lb, just a few feet from the shoreline.  You should not have any problem getting a lakeside site anytime mid-week. No statefishing  license required just day use permits ($8 for two rods). They have boating (for hire), no swimming in the lake but a nice outdoor pools (2) and spa.  Overall a nicely run facility.    You wont be disappointed.

Good Luck
B.T.
