I am having a tiff with Starlink right now that has been on going for about 3 months now. I involved the FCC to get SL attention. It's a billing issue that I have taken exception with. I tried to handle it with their customer service, but all I ever got was AI.
 
"All things that glitter are not necessarily gold." I've been skeptical of SL since it's inception! Now, some time later, lots and lots of complaints and dissatisfied consumers. I'm not surprised. What's that old expression: "Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it!"
 
Starlink has been working great for me, I love it. I use the 100GB Roam plan and have been able to pause and activate with no problems. And after a pause, I've been able to activate immediately. I have not needed their customer service yet so I can't comment on that. Is it possible that only the Roam plan allows immediate activation and not the Residential plan?
 
I may have created my original original problem myself. However, there’s still no excuse for the poor support I received.
I still like Elon, but maybe not quite as much now.

I just saw where a guy had starlink 4-5 years ago, the first version of it but cancelled because he had an unlimited data cell plan and used that. He just went to turn the starlink back on and the original dish no longer works, he missed some final update back in 2025 and now its bricked.
 
while i agree that vaporizing so many lumps of metal is a bad thing, NASA quantifies the mass of cosmic material entering the atmosphere to be greater than 40 tons per day.. ! either way we are continuously showered with crap.. LOl
Then there is the massive amount of pollution to get those satellites up there (kudos to reusing some rockets), but the amount of light pollution for astronomy enthusiasts in the nighttime sky... it gets boring. Only to help him make it to a trillion.

it's only a question of time before the Kessler Syndrome initiates and wipes out all the satellites. with so many objects in close proximity i'm surprised it hasn't happened already.

Space is a very big place. The Starlink satellites for instance, range from about 60 miles apart to 250 miles apart. And each one of them is equipped with sophisticated avoidance technology, as are most modern satellites. With the variety of orbital paths and elevations in use, the satellites are really not all that close together. Kessler of course, is based on LEO satellite density, and the Starlink sats are designed to burn up on re-entry.

Let's hope the anti-collision systems can keep up with the influx. If the batches of sats are spread over different elevations, that should minimize any issues.

250 mile separation isn't much of a gap to shoot through when the average orbital speed is 17,150 mph. That's a gap of about 1 second between successive satellites if I did the math right.

If they can shoot a craft accurately enough to dock it to the ISS, they ought to be able to shoot through a 250 mile "hole" in space.
