Members confirm that a Starlink Roam account can be used both at home and while traveling, but there are trade-offs. The Roam plan is more expensive than the residential plan and may experience slower speeds in congested areas due to lower network priority. Some RVers keep their Roam plan on standby for $5/month when not traveling, which allows for basic connectivity and easy reactivation, while others prefer to cancel and restart as needed, noting that reactivation requires internet access...

Oh, I see I need to clarify something:

When I did a basic router reboot on my Starlink, nothing changed. It fixed nothing at all.

When I did the "full factory reset" it fixed everything, I just needed to enter Wifi info again, but I was able to do everything with no other internet connection other than the Starlink itself. It was a rather easy fix, but I was too chicken to try it at first without another internet connection which I discovered was unnecessary.

Given I shut down/restart SL every time we move on a long trip I never had any concerns about soft restarts. Always pops right back up when reconnecting.

But as I always have SL in passthrough mode and use my own router, when that router died and I had to do the factory reset thing to use their router until I got a new one, I was pleased to see, as you mentioned, how easy it was to get things working. New router came, then back to bypass mode and all good again.

It seems that in spite of the amazing complexity of the overall SL system that the "last mile" so to speak of getting the connection to you is pretty straight forward.

The only thing I find weird, is that it accepts a wide range of voltage (12V to 48V DC), but appears to be totally unregulated. When I was fooling around with it, many of the issues were caused by a change in voltage, and more noticeable at the lower voltage range, where just adding a longer cable can make it crash.

If I just use it and leave it alone after once setup up it gives me no problems at all. But even if I do change something, it is very easy to get the service back, so it's no big deal.

Even without the app you can use it right away with a full factory reset, but it will then be an open system where no PW is required. Just not a big deal.
