Our Lippert RV steps stopped retracting automatically when the engine is turned on. They work otherwise perfectly, that is open and close with the position of the coach door. I replaced the module with the identical one, tightened the ground connections and confirmed there is voltage on the wire coming from the RV electric. What else can it be?

There is a voltage input from the ignition key switch. Absent that signal, the step control has no way to know when the key switch is on. You can test module functionality by applying a voltage to this input, then from there it's a matter of tracing it back.

Thanks, Mark. I referred to this wire coming when I wrote “coming from the RV electric”. It has 12 V when the ignition is on and no voltage with the ignition off. I thus really have no clue what else to check.

One thing I found is if I went from OFF to START the steps would not retract
If I went from OFF to RUN/On pause. Then start. they retracted
And yes I know why. the voltage drop when the starter engaged caused a current change that signaled the controller "Retracted".
